- I get around town average 29.1 mpg & 34 mpg on hywy
- Have a 93 and the glass view is not as great in the 06 other wise I must say this is a great car!
Purchased As Used
Before buying I did some checking as to what day the car was made, after finding the day to my satisfaction the rest was easy and the Subie just great.
The car had been a lease and so was kept clean and up to checks.
Can't say enough about this Outback it's loaded with every option available, truely my last car plus one extra; 93 Legacy....read morehide

- Fuel economy, features, interior appeal
- seats a bit hard
I want to offer a real world opinion of this car and clarify some of the points/complaints that are fairly common in other reviews. First of all, you can't make a bad choice when going Japanese, if that even needs said. Any bad reviews are a hoax. I consider the performance excellent because: 1)Fuel economy is great. I got 28 mpg on 2nd tank with mixed city/highway. Rating is 23/28 and this can be matched or beaten, at least if you drive reasonably. 2)Ride is quiet and confortable. Complaints about road noise are exagerated, since you will most likely be listening to the very nice stock stereo. 3)Vision is very good, although front head rests are a bit large and impeed blind spot vision. 4)Subaru all-wheel drive goes without saying. Some other positives: The interior is impressive, with very attractive leather & trim. Instrumentation is simple but classy. Controls are positioned nicely. Really a very nice, almost European finish. Exterior appearance is decent--not as sharp as say a Volvo wagon, but after all it is a Subaru, and the 06 model is more attractive than previous years. Accelleration is adequate, not stellar, but you are not looking at Subaru Outback wagons if you want speed. Id also like to adress two silly complaints that I read in quite a few reviews: 1)Glove box closing hard is a non-issue. Mine closes like any other. 2)Moonroof-which is quite impressive-needs to be engaged twice to open and 3 times to close not because of something faulty, but because it is a dual-stage moonroof and there is a safety feature built in so someone does'nt close their hand in it. The only compaint I have found so far is that the seats are somewhat hard. They form fairly nice to the body, and are not uncomfortable, just hard. I have leather and dont know if cloth would be different, but my butt was numb after only about an hour driving. Kindof a big deal when spending 30K and a legitimate complaint in my opinion....read morehide

- lookssss good, good cargo space, good gas mileage
- brakes soft, not enough power, engine noise at higher speeds, reliability?
This is the second Subaru I have owned. I have had major mechanical problems with both. I had a 2001 Forester that had the AWD go out at 90,000 miles. That was 1600.00 at a local mechanic and I wouldn't even guess what the dealership would have charged.
My 2005 Outback has 51000 miles on it and now the rear differential is shot. The drive train warranty is 60000 miles so at least they have to pay for it....read morehide

- Fuel Economy, Snrf, Untility
- No Ipod hookup
I just picked this vehicle up today from the dlrshp - love it! I have done a very extensive car search and researched several models. We are a newly married couple with a dog and thinking of kids in the next few years but love the outdoors (camping, skiing, you name it). We also travel north (New England) alot. This subie combined all the needs we had along with a sporty package at a great price - who could pass it up! We can get the dog and all of our gear in this and still handle the snow - can't wait for our first adventure....read morehide

- fuel economy, luxurious, unique, roomy, standard manual transmission
- 4cyl is a little slow and the bigger engines are expensive
I like this car because it is different from the typical SUV. I had one for a week and enjoyed it.It had heated seats and moonroof and lots of luxury car items. I would purchase one most likely a xt turbo model though.

- nice ride good value
- middle seat in the back not so good
Fell in love with Sub in the 90's. 1997 outback served us well and recently deceided for a change. Bought mine on the internet, best way to go, little BS. When the dealer parked my new 2.5i limited next to the old one, looked like I just parted with a dinasour. Old outback was nice but new Suba is super in looks. Only have 100 miles, but I am totaly impressed with fit and finish, power is good, sunroof outstanding. Backseat middle area not the greatest to sit in. Took the family of five for a ride and I can see middle seat will pose some issues related to comfort. Not impossible but not booster seat friendly in the middle. Other choice was ford 500 a good value and big, but SUba has the reliable history my 97 only needed brakes and regular maintance. My last gringo car pulled me to the dealer 24/7. If on the fence good with the subaru! Always ask for dealer price and go from there make them show you. Go on the internet and ask all of them for a price make them work. You have the cash you are the customer....read morehide
