2006 Subaru Outback

- Outstanding handling and acceleration/Excellent performance in inclement weather/Great front seats
- Somewhat gas thirsty/Lack of 6th gear/Tight legroom in the back seats
Subaru has done a very good job with this car. The handling of the XT is outstanding - stiff and precise. The acceleration is excellent (I have been lucky to get only one speeding ticket in over a year, but aaah - all the memories of leaving big SUV's quickly behind) and the manual gearbox works flawlessly, although I needed a little time to get used to the clutch. The car handles tough weather conditions in a confident manner which is a big plus for me as I drive through snowy or rainy mountain passes and backroads all the time. The visibility is excellent. The front leather seats provide great back support - they are firm and well designed.
The problems that I have experienced with this car: two light bulbs died and a faulty fuel injector was replaced in the first week of ownership. Not bad for a new model.
I think this car needs the following: 6th gear to lower the RPM's at higher speeds, more legroom in the back and elimination of plastic bolts that are used to keep certain panels (engine cover or oil filter protection cover). The fuel economy is not that great, but that's the price to be paid as the car begs to be driven hard.
