2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara XL-7
There are 1 user reviews for the Touring 4WD trim shown below
- great mpg (17-20) for a 7-passenger vehicle, good pickup with turbo button for freeway approach etc.
- A bit noisy and rough, farthest back seat tough to climb into for older adults
Purchased As Used
This has been a great car-pool vehicle. The timing chain went out at about 50K miles and cost $1K to fix, which I hear is a common problem with these. The front oxygen sensor needs to be replaced (causing check engine light to stay one).
Other than that, my Grand Vitara XL7 is at 116,000 miles now and has required very little maintenance. It feels a bit floaty around corners at high speeds, but is more stable than my old Jeep Grand Cherokee. Will probably put stiffer shocks on it soon to improve stabilization.
Great for hauling kids, dogs, and moving boxes (cargo area holds a twin mattress with seats flattened), while still fitting into a compact parking space. Handles fairly well in snow and ice driving to Tahoe and has never overheated driving through the mountains to the beach in summer.
Overall, this is an economical and reliable vehicle with good acceleration for getting onto the freeway safely in traffic (6 cyl automatic with turbo button) and great mpg for the passenger capacity.
If on a budget like I was when I bought it, I would buy it again....read morehide
