a lot of bang for the buck. Fully capable.

by FormerJeepguy from Wichita, KS (9/17/08)
Pros:Standard features galore, 4x4, better than expected gas mileage
Cons:non-removable fold and tumble rear seats take a lot of space

I have a 2008 Suzuki Grand Vitara XSport 4x4 and I really like it. I have been a Jeep guy for most of my adult life. The GV is a nice on road/off road vehicle. Features galore for the price point. Where else can you get a real 4 wheel drive vehicle, with traction control, 6 disc 7 speaker stereo with sub, sun roof, automatic climate control, great fit and finish, extended warranty all for under $22K out the door (including tax, title and license). A lot of bang for the buck. The seats are comfortable, the ride is good. I like the more truck like feel the GV gives me. Its not harsh by any means, just more truck like than its competition. Its a nice package. If is a very capable, fun to drive small ute. I was worried about gas mileage, but I am getting over 22 MPG with mostly in town driving. When I have it on the highway, I get 25+. I am happy with those numbers considering the utility of the vehicle. My biggest beef with the GV is the fold and tumble seats in the back. When tumbled up, it still takes up a lot of real estate in the vehicle that could be better used if the seats folded flat to the floor line may other vehicles in its class. I guess you would have to give up clearance or head room to do that though. Overall, I love the Grand Vitara XSport. I chose this over the Lux because I didnt like the feel of the leather seats, although the seat warmers would be nice. I guess i will get them fitted for that aftermarket!
Great vehicle! Great price! Would recommend to a friend and family

Suzuki Grand Vitara review

by Bill from Bozeman, Montana (7/07/08)
Pros:Solid Construction, good visibility, good radio, well behaved on the road
Cons:none yet

Purcahased 3 days ago for my wife. Took a 300 mile trip in Montana (75 plus mph and some combined city driving and the fuel economy was 24.1 mpg - this on a new engine. Did some in town driving from one end to the other and the mpg was over 20.0 mpg (combination of lights and extended two lane 35 mph zones. Just take it easy on the throttle - avolid the jackrabbit starts. This being Montana one of the big selling points was the two speed transfer case - it will be used and may give up some mpg for this additioanl gear box. The five speed auto does down shift on some long uphill climbs but the selector has a slick move to lock it into 4th gear to minimize the shifting. Back seat room is nice and the reclining seat backs for the back seat is sweet. This vehicles handles well - good tracking characteristics. Factory paint is top notch as is the undercoating. One of the most exciting vehicles we have purchased - good warranty and the keyless operation is just too cool. Nice ride! - and 6000 less than a comparable RAV4 without a two speed transfer case.

An authentic SUV for off-road

by GV 4x4 from Manila, Philippines (6/14/08)
Pros:a true 4x4, can go over terrain other SUV can't, not common, great design
Cons:full-time 4wd is kinda thristy, ride not as comfy compared to competition

The Grand Vitara I drive is a 2007 model with a 2.0 engine, automatic transmission with 4-mode 4WD. It is a true SUV - it can handle off-road trails that the competition can't.

As fuel prices are going up, it would be great if there was a mode to switch from 2WD to 4WD, like in Suzuki's SX4. Better fuel economy would be ideal for heavy city traffic using 2WD.

Overall, I am happy with my SUV.

Lot of power in a smaller SUV! VERY happy with it!

by Sara from Springfield, PA (6/09/08)
Pros:Beautiful exterior, comfortable interior, many features come standard
Cons:Not the best on gas

I bought a 2008 Grand Vitara not too long ago, and I love it! I got a great deal on it, and lots of features came standard. For instance, mine came with a sunroof and cruise control, which I had never had in past cars.

I am very happy with the way the car handles, as well as its overall performance. I get about 21 miles per gallon, but I do a lot of highway driving. I would highly recommend the Grand Vitara to anybody who is looking for a larger car-like interior, yet wants the exterior of an SUV.

Love this roomy, stylish vehicle!

by Tracy from Panama City, FL (6/01/08)
Pros:Lots of elbow and leg room! Comfortable seats. Stylish. Great price.
Cons:Arm rest a bit low for my comfort. Horrible wind noise with back windows down.

Love this vehicle! Lots and lots of elbow and leg room. Very comfortable seats. Adjustable driver seat, tilt steering wheel. Coldest air conditioning, and powerful fan to cool vehicle. Back seat has plenty of leg room. Plenty of head room. Rear door opens to side (easy to wash window) not like hatchback. It has a nice, smooth ride. Great turning radius! I'm a tall, heavy-set female with a bad back and I love this vehicle! Oh, I like the fact that the Grand Vitara has a full-sized spare tire and not a 50-miler, and Suzuki has the best warranty out there right now. The electrical security system is another PLUS!

Only drawbacks I could find: arm rest was low for my comfort but I am getting use to it, and the steering wheel controls are not lit at night. I also found that there is a horrendous noise caused by the aerodynamics when the back windows are lowered more than half-way. But then I'm told all SUV's and trucks are like that now. OH, be sure to test drive this at night and see how well you like the headlights. They freaked me out when I brought it home overnight. This "problem" can easily be fixed.

I wouldn't buy Suzuki again.

by Mercedes from Kissimmee, Fl (4/12/08)
Pros:Fue economy is fine.
Cons:The fan belt makes noise when starting or when the weather is humid.

Oil burns a bit forming soot around the tailpipe. The seats are made of a thin material that has torn on the driver side. Came with CD player in the back. I've seen it come with the CD player under the seat. Basicall the CD player is not easil reachable. Back door window doesn't roll down. Breaks wear down fast.

"Grand Vitara" fits this steal.

by Ernestine from Anaheim, Ca (4/04/08)
Pros:Good fuel economy, Inside appearance is great, V6 engine response well.
Cons:Ride is a little rought, Brakes squeal and make thud noise when pressed hard.

Since I've had my Grand Vitara it has performed well with the exception of the brakes. My fan stopped working but it was still under warranty so it was replaced no charge and I even got a rental car to use on Susuki to run my errands. I love the fact that I didn't have to pay extra for the moon roof and the six changer cd player that it comes with. It is also "XM" ready as well as mp3. Leather interior is also another standard feature the Vitara can come with. It's an excellent car for the price and I love it.

VERY DISAPPOINTED

by SAD from PENNSYLVANIA (3/13/08)
Pros:Appearance is good.
Cons:Gas mileage is poor, mechanical problems, tires are poor.

This is my first Suzuki and will be my last. I am very disappointed. Nothing but problems. I have another appointment with the service department today. Have the vehicle 6 months now and this will be my fourth trip to the service department. Probably for them to tell me the same thing. The computer chip is not recording the problems. But I got a little wiser and took pictures of the lights detecting the malfunctions: Engine light comes on; fuel tank light comes on reading empty when it is at least half full; brake light comes on; gas mileage average 10-17 mpg.
