- its electric, rare
- braking is volatile, heavy, new product from new company.
Purchased As New
I've driven an S for a while (my company got one for PR purposes.) overall, the idea if this car is intriguing and tempting; but the car itself has many smaller, and some serious problems. It is heavy, very heavy; the suspension won't last on the potholes and bumps in most cities. The brakes are weird: this is partially solved by the driver learning them, but the real problem is the driver behind me- she/he isn't going to learn them. On ice, those same touchy brakes and that enormous weight add up to very expensive sliding. Range anxiety is still an issue, despite the well orchestrated media campaign. Plan on a major expense for battery replacement on x years (we'll see.) It is likely to cost in the $10,000's (couldn't get an answer from Tesla) - there goes your fuel savings...Apparently there have been problems with liquids being spilt on interior floor- caused an electrical short (I haven't tried it- need car running for media events.) I don't mean to trash Tesla- this is a first generation car from a new, small company. Competing with 60 -100 year old companies with extensive experience & safety knowledge is not a trivial matter. But buying a 1st or 2nd generation product is rarely a good idea.
Tesla is not a car company, its a Wall Street money grab using tax payer's money. Do some research on who lent the CEO the money to buy his stock....
