- Handles great for a truck
- Brakes weak, power so-so, tires awful.
Iv'e had this truck about 1 1/2 years and had all kinds of trouble with the stock tires. It handles better than any truck I've ever owned although italso is the first one with a rear stabilizer bar so it's hard to compare to others fairly. It does get lots of comments on how rough it rides but I expected that. Acceleration for a small truck is adequate but no race car. 235 H.P. is nothing great for a 4.0 L. I expected more. The multiple gears make it feel faster than it really is. Brakes fade quickly in mountains or with a load. All in all a nice sports truck but don't buy it thinking you can take on V-8 cars in a drag race....read morehide

- Fierce Acceleration, Tenacious Cornering, 6-Speed Transmission, Rear 1/4 Doors, Solid Appearance
- Ineffective braking, poor visibility, uncomfortable seats
I often have other pick up truck drivers staring at my X-Runner, wondering what it is and then invariably challenging me to a race.
The X-Runner smokes them every time. Picture a Ferrari with a truck
bed - that is effectively what the X-Runner is. While it may not have the aerodynamics and top speed of the Ferrari, it certainly has all the acceleration and handling needed at highway speeds. The cornering is perhaps its most notable characteristic. The X-Bracing on the chassis makes the body so rigid there is little noticeable roll on corners. The 245hp engine is plenty to make this truck move faster than most every other car on the road. Keep in mind this is a pick up truck. It will not move 0-60 in 4.5 but for a truck with a sporty feel it delivers way beyond sporty.
Now that I have raved enough about I will address the drawbacks:
The combination of a very low seat position and large hood scoop and large mirrors makes outward visibility one of the poorest of any vehicle. The large left hand mirror and A-pillar block about 20 degrees of visibility to the left. This is a great hazard while turning left at low speeds. If an object or a child is on the front left side of the truck, the driver will never see it. What was Toyota thinking?
The brakes do not match the ferocious acceleration of the engine. The rear are drum brakes and the fronts are average size disk brakes. Strangely they are the only parts that are not characteristic of the sports-car feel of the X-Runner. It appears Toyota made some trade-offs here perhaps in favor of cost.
The only colors offered are black, red and blue. I would have preferred white.
Overall I enjoy the utility of the truck and power and handling of the sports car feel. I will probably replace the seats with something more supportive....read morehide

- excellent handling, awesome looks, great value
- brakes could be bigger stock, drums in the rear
A lot of people complain about the long throws on the shifter, which they are, but it is a truck. The X-Runner is an awesome truck for the value. Handles like a sporty car yet has the utility of a truck. Nice well built interior and an erray of options included make this a good deal. It's hard to find another sport truck that offers what the X-Runner offers at its price. V6 power, 6-speed manual transmission, and Bilstein sport tuned suspension....read morehide

- Good looking truck, decent fuel economy, great power and handling.
- Notchy transmission, clutch started squeaking 2 weeks after purchase.
Overall a great truck. Good looks, good power to weight ratio and the handling is one of the best in the truck category. A few drawbacks would be the notchy shifting transmission and the forever squeaking clutch which never stops squeaking even after being oiled and serviced at the dealership.
My only complaint regarding the purchase of this truck has to be the worst customer service that I received during my purchase here in Hawaii....read morehide

- good on gas, handles really well
I've had my Xrunner for about 6 months before 6th gear went out, had to have a new transmission, after that i had a check engine light on for bad O2 senors, and a bad catalyic converter. Other than that its been and outstanding truck.
