- decent priced truck
- a couple of rattles or squeaks, wind noise quite intrusive at highway speeds, mediocre mileage.
this truck is an over-all good vehicle that lacks refinement. It'll get you by, but you may wish for more. Toyota definitely puts more emphasis on their cars than on their trucks.

- 2003 Tacoma V6, Auto, Ext Cab, 4X4, TRD, Buckets, Sunroof
- No Cons on My 2003
Hey folks, whow, well ok I have not bought an 07 Tacoma thus far. I have sat in them and driven them. Read the various reviews here over the the last year. Compared to my 2003, The 07 feels huge in comparison and it is.
While there are some negative reviews posted, I think most are compliant enough that Toyota is still a good product. Build quaility, door gaps and customer satisfaction over-all seem to be edging closer to american standards since being built in the states.....
With regards to the transmission issues? Hesitation, RPMS jumping and such, check out the reviews for the 07 camery's with auto transmissions? I'm wondering if "simalar" tranny parts or Engine CPU's are being used on/in the 07 Tacoma?
Now the GOOD news, after carefull consideration over the last year and in good part to these reviews: I have decided to keep my 2003 Toyota Tacoma, V6, Auto, Ext Cab, 4X4, TRD, Tow Package, Bucket Seats, Sun Roof, VIP security, White insturmentation, BFG's all around.
Using adult "common sense" while on the trail the 2003 Toyota Tacoma seems non-stopable in snow or off road [With BFG KO's].
One other thing I like about the pre-2005 Tacomas, is that the 4X4 systems have a shifter to actually put the truck in 4X4 or 4-low, I like this better "myself" rather the turing a dial on the dash board.
I have not had 1 thing go wrong with my 2003 Toyota Tacoma. Like most Toyota fans would say the earlier models up to 2004, were bullet resistent, they had a proven Power-trains [V6], good ole 4-speed tranmissions that go like the energizer bunny commercial.
An ending note: My local Toyota Dealer [Washington State] are crying out load for clean 2002-2004 4X4 Toyota Tacomas with V6 engines. There proven design, engines and durability have these trucks in higher demand then the new ones....read morehide

- Agressive Stance, Good Suspension, Interior Trim/Fit, Comfort
- I HATE the Auto Transmission. It shudders, changes gears at odd times, or won't change.
I bought this truck based on the Toyota reputation of reliability. I hope it will have this as I'm not too convinced about the transmission. Frankly, it stinks. I don't like the way it shifts, the shuddering, the hard downshifting in a stopped postion, and when going downhill just decides on it's own to shift and rev the RPM's. Then won't shift out of that with any regularity. I have to shift to Neutral to get it back to normal. The 4X4 with the TRD Off-Road package is awesome and I've had to use it a few times for support of Adventure Racing. This truck holds a ton of gear, and the bed rails are an awesome addition. If it weren't for the way this truck shifts, I would plan to hold onto it forever. My hope would be that it would last that long.....if the transmission doesn't die out from being a royal pain in the rear end. I've taken it to a Toyota dealership (good luck on finding a competent one) and they don't seem to find an issue. Of course not, they want the warranty to expire beofe they tell you there's a big issue....read morehide

- Trany shuders just like the old trucks
- ABS LIGHT and BRAKELIGHT WONT TURN OFF
love it, needs the Super Charger and Header Back.
The limited slip works very smooth like NEW 5100 miles .
This truck will shock you with everything it can do.

- Trd turns heads good ride fuel mileage sure beats my dodge dakota
If you want a reliable truck for work and play, the tacoma is the truck you need. It got punch when you hit the fuel and all the controls are in easy reach. Love my truck, getting between 19 and 20 mpg in town.

- Awesome ride, looks great.

Traded in my 01 Ranger for this and so far this truck is just awesome! This is my first experience with 4 wheel drive, but so far, so good.

- Fuel economy is decent for a vehicle this size. Well laid out interior.
- High step-in for some, noisy at high r.p.m.
I jumped a little too soon, perhaps in haste chose the wrong vehicle. I can live with it though, it'll do for my needs.
I'm also not sure of Toyota quality anymore. A few squeaks and rattles, a shimmer in the front end at hard braking, I don't know. I hope the interior plastics hold up, it seems to scratch easily.
Lot of torque. gotta' love that. A little light in the rear though. Could use a load back there....read morehide

- Strong V6, smooth ride, Toyota reliability, impressive handling for a truck
- More expensive than others (you get what you pay for though!), would like an MP3 hookup
I bought this truck a few weeks ago after months of saving and consideration and I can say that I am not disappointed. I went with the V6 Access cab TRD Off-Road version for it's 4x4 capabilities and looks. The Off-Road package includes the beefy tires and tuned suspension, neither of which has caused me any problems, i.e. road noise or bouncy ride, besides, its a truck not an Avalon!
The truck's size is perfect for me. I didn't need a huge truck with a huge engine (and thirst for fuel) but didn't want something tiny either. The Tacoma fits my needs perfectly, enough size for me to drive comfortably and small enough to fit in my garage. The interior is layed out well, everything is easily accessable. Toyota and other companies offer a wide variety of accessories so I can customize my truck to fit my needs. Also, Tacomas come with a standard composite bed, so you don't need to spend additional money for a Rhino liner or something like that.
The tow package is a definite plus as it includes beefed up oil and trans coolers and a larger battery as well as all the necessary hookups. The 6500 lb. tow capacity is fine for me, if I needed anything larger I would have bought a bigger truck. Other reviewers state brake issues and transmission hunting, neither of which have I noticed on mine.
Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone searching for a small to mid-size truck. I've driven it in the city and a long road trip and its performed great in both situations....read morehide
