My previous vehicle was a 99 Ford Ranger 4x4 with 9 inches of Fabtech susp, and body lift, 36 inch Mickeys and a ton of extras. I recently traded it in at 178,000 miles for my new 07' Tacoma 4x4 Double Cab Sport model. I spent about a month test driving and poking around every new truck I could possibly think of before making my purchase but in the end the Tacoma just "outtrucked" all the others. Everything from the wide wheel base to the short poly/fiber non metal bed with the wall outlet and drug smuggle compartments j/k to the 6,500lb. tow package, multiple under body skid plates and superb underbody/frame finishing, bilsteins, 17 in. alloys, all x-joints lubable on propellarshafts, oil filter relocated to top of engine, non-functional but sweet looking hood scoop..... Interior that is beyond beautiful and extremely functional- test drive one and check out rear seats- they fold down with hard backs and have compartments. i'm rambling.
I have over 10 car dealerships that are my business clientelle ranging from domestic to all types of imports. I was at first given a slightly hard time by my domestic dealership managers- little ribbing "are you hungry to drive a new truck every hour...? does it give happy endings..." but after everyone had a chance to look the truck over and sit in it they agreed it's most likely the finest truck out there not counting the Tundra. I've parked this next to brand new Chevy 1500's/sierras, Colorado/Canyons, Chevy F150's, 250's, Rangers and any Dodges- snicker.. and there is no possible way they can size up in options, fit or finish for it's price range. I've had PDI managers and salesmen comment that they'd take it any day over the previously mentioned vehicles just don't tell their GM!
I must admit that buying a Toyota was a difficult choice due to the fact my aunt is employeed by Ford MC Corporate and my uncle sets up networks for GM. My father even was dead set against Toyota because "we're giving away America!" however aren't the majority if not many American vehicles already part sourced or built altogether outside of North America? Last time I checked Toyota is American built. After a ride around the block and a chance to kick the tires my father completely reversed his opinion on Toyota products now just to get him to sell all that stock in Ford.
My only gripes would have to be that Toyota doesn't offer any leather options on the Tacoma besides the steering wheel and shifter and I had to find a hard tonneau cover from an outside company. However my dealer was extremely helpful with what I wanted and sent my truck out to be fitted with leather and a hard tonneau cover which was all worked into the price of my vehicle with Toyota financing. By the way.. they rock- you can call at any hour to see if your payment was received, remaining balance, etc. Also if you make extra payments they forgo your due date for next payment to the amount you paid.
