2008 Toyota Tacoma 4X4
There are 5 user reviews for the Regular Cab I4 Manual trim shown below
- Good fuel economy, comfortable seats, excellent value.
- Suspension too soft, rear drum brakes.
I was looking for basic 4x4 pickup that would give me decent fuel economy and had a reputation for quality and longevity. Looked at Ford, Chevrolet, Toyota and Nissan and found the Toyota Tacoma to be the best engineered and built small pickup truck and also the best value. The extended cab and 4 door were way over my budget, and I didn't like the idea of putting premium gas in a truck. Mine is a Regular Cab SR5 so it has the bucket seats and a big counsel. I drove one with a bench seat and didn't find it near as comfortable as the bucket seats. I added a cap over the bed and thought that may have a detrimental effect on gas mileage, but I guess it didn't. With about 2000 miles on the truck, I am averaging 24 MPG in a combination of city and highway driving, and averaged 27.4 MPG on a recent 500 mile highway trip. It is not the fastest truck out there, but the one thing you can pass is a lot of gas stations. To me the suspension seems a little soft, but the result of this is a fairly decent ride. I had a full sized Ford Bronco with a heavy duty suspension for 14 years, so perhaps that is why the Tacoma feels soft. I would have preferred disc brakes on the rear, but the braking seems adequate with the rear drums. This is the first Toyota I have owned, so hopefully it will last as long as my old Bronco did. I am getting double the gas mileage of the Bronco, so does that mean it will last twice as long? Wow, I may have the Tacoma for 28 years.............read morehide

- Great lookin' truck
- That rattle, that endless rattle
This is my second truck, first being a '87 Nissan Hardbody which lasted me ten years. I returned to a pickup after moving to the mountains and needed room to haul stuff. We all have stuff.
I truly like this truck and in the 4 months I have driven it. It shifts nicely, and has plenty of power in the 4 cyclinders for me to get up those hills. Can't wait to check the 4 x 4 out in the snow.
My only complaint is this rattle, this endless rattle from under the cab that cheapens the vehicle. I had it to a local dealer four times who replaced the shocks, and right side leaf spring also added cushions and other stuff that seemed to solve the problem for about an hour. It's at a point where I will live with it.
I have about 2,500 miles on it, hardly broken in, and have decided to trade it in in three years. A friend of mine has said Toyota is known for their rattles. Don't get wrong..my Nissan rattled too. But I thought Toyota was a better built machine. Ha.
In the road ahead, if the rattle is my only problem then I will a happy driver....read morehide

- Very nice looking truck even with a 6 inch lift. Overall appearence is very good.
- Poor gas mileage, very uncomfortable and a poor vaule overall. Very under powered and overpriced.
I have only owned this vehicle for less than two months and the vehicle has been in the shop three times to correct poor quality manufacturing process. Just yesterday I had to take it back to get a tire presure sensor repaired. I have herad so much about what a quality vehicle and vaule that Toyato provide their customers. NOT AT ALL TRUE. The vechile is junk, poorly manufactured and not a good vaule at all. This was my first and last Toyota product. No one at Toyota responds to complaints at all...and when the dealer does call they try and blame the user of the product. Not the expierence I was looking for from Toyota...back to good old American Made products. They can keep the junk in Japan....read morehide

- Pretty good fuel economy, high quality interior materials
- Engine a little weak, thump when come to a stop.
Overall, I love this truck. It could be a little more refined for regular driving. The suspension is a little rough, but it is a truck. Engine performs adequately with the I4. There is a noticeable drop in power with the AC on through. I don't do any heavy hauling so it is well-suited to my needs. Gas mileage is around 21-22mpg around town. Interior put together very well. This is only a base model and next time I will buy a truck with more options, very pleased with it so far!...read morehide

- Great fuel with four cylinder 21/24, looks amazing, great 4x4 capability
- Brakes a little spongy, rides like a truck
I couldn't be happier with this truck. It looks great, very fun to drive, very simple interior, no worries with the 4x4. I have towed many cars out of ditches and snow banks with no problem. Great power for being an I4, pulls a loaded trailer or boat with no problem. Being a Toyota I know once the warranty is up I will still be worry free. Be buy for the buck....read morehide
