Just traded my 09 Tacoma 4cyl/ 5 speed man 4x4 SR5 Access Cab for a 2012 Double Cab V6 4x4 SR5 longbed 5 speed auto with Toyota's great 2.9% financing. The Tacoma is not cheap, at least not when you get up into the larger double cab models. One thing to shop for when you are looking at a 2012 Tacoma is to avoid the TRD off road or TRD Sport packages which can tack on upwards of $5500 to the already 30K base price for the Double cab 4x4s. The TRD stickers look nice and a lot of Tundras and Tacomas are sold with these packages, its unfortunate because they offer nothing useful except for perhaps the EnTune entertainment pkg. Look for the SR5 package that includes 16" alloys, the upgraded audio system with iPod interface and Bluetooth and tow package and you have an awesome package that saves you about $4000 over a TRD model.
For 2012 the Tacoma has a new look up front but the read stays the same. New more agressive headlight/ grille and bumper assembly as well as fog lamp housings make this thing look lean, mean and considerably more aerodynamic than than the 2011. Inside the basic dash layout is the same but with upgraded audio systems, available NAV, a new steering wheel with integrated controls for the audio system as well as Bluetooth. The 4.0L V6 is silky smooth while not a hot-rod engine it pulls strong and shifts perfectly. The 5-speed auto operates like something out of a Lexus.
