Purchased As Used
I bought my 2002 4Runner Sport Edition in August of 2007, because I needed a vehicle to tow my new boat. I selected the 4Runner because I have always wanted one and Toyota makes the most reliable cars period. In comparison to Domestic SUV's in the same class you are going to pay a premium, but I felt it was well worth the Toyota name; that is why the value is a 4 vs a 5. Performance I gave a 3 because although the 4 Wheel drive system is second to none and comes with a rear diff. locker; I wish the v6 engine had a little more power for towing. My boat is around 2,500 lbs; which is not large and there is noticable lack of power in the hills. For all other applications the V6 is fine, but if you intend to tow a lot with this vehicle keep this in mind. I have put 30,000 miles it since I purchased the vehicle and I have not had a single mechanical problem. "knock on wood" Overall the rating is a 4, but only because of the outdated interior in comparison to other 2002 SUVs and the lack of towing capability. With all this being said if given the chance to purchase again; I would in a heart beat!
