On May 4, I was involved in an accident in my '08 4Runner. I was slammed into by a 2013 Dodge Ram 2500 with a rhino guard going 65mph (totally my fault as I pulled out in front of him ).
He hit nearly between my driver side door and the door behind me.
I do not remember the accident, but recall waking up in the car with a concussion from hitting the frame, a minor fracture on my hip from impact and a few bruises here and there.
The frame held up and quite literally saved my life. If it wasn't for the curtain airbags, sturdy frame, and ability to hold up, I don't even want to think about what would have been had I been driving my fiance's Mustang!
I will recommend this car a thousand times over, even as used!...read morehide

- During the winter (no AC) I average 22-24 mgp overall. During the summer in Texas I avg 20.5-21 mpg
- The vehicle is light so it gets pushed around easily in high wind.
The miles per gallon are much higher than what it is rated for. I suspect this is because it's not a heavy vehicle that does get pushed around a bit in high wind. I am in a relatively flat area for the MPG I have listed. When I am in a hilly area the mileage goes down but that is the same with any vehicle. This gets better mileage than most sedans. It's a dream to merge in traffic and handles wonderfully. I would not hestitate to buy another one when the time comes. I am praying Toyota creates a 4Runner hybrid....read morehide

- OK fuel economy (20 mpg), handles great, fun to drive, peppy even w/the V6. No maintenance ever!
- back seat can sometimes be bouncy
I have an '03 4 Runner and I love it! It's the 2nd Toyota I have owned. My husband and I pull a 24 foot Travel Trailor with it and it has no problems. It's a peppy little SUV.

- GAS MILEAGE WOULD BE GREAT, IF GAS WAS NOT $3.00 PLUS PER GALLON, BETTER ON THE HIGHWAY
- BRAKES SOMETIMES MAKE A FUNNY NOISE
I HAVE HAD A TERCEL, CAMRY, CORROLLA AND NOW THE TOYOTA 4 RUNNER, I HAVE A 2007 AND IT IS THE BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD. I HAVE NO SERIOUS PROBLEMS OR ISSUES WITH THE CAR. I AM DISABLED AND SITTING UP SO HIGH HELPS MY LEGS AND BACK, BUT I HAVE A LITTLE PROBLEM CLIMBING IN AND OUT OF THE TRUCK, BUT I WOULD NOT TRADE FOR ANYTHING. IT IS A GREAAAAAAAT !!!!!!! SUV....read morehide

- Vault solid, very quiet, smooth ride, Lexus level fit finish and materials
- Have not seen any yet
Traded my Camry for new 4Runner. Thankfully I did not rely on CAR/DRIVER magazine review which rated the 4Runner below the Nissan Pathfinder and Jeep. I drove the Pathfinder over a month as a rental. It felt like a noisy and rough pickup with cardboard like interior dash and cheap materials. The Jeep had similar quality issues and not so great reliability. CAR/DRIVER also considered the Lexus GX470 as a Lexus on a Toyota truck. Very misleading. Both the Lexus RX/ES are really Camry based vehicles; the Landcruiser and LX570 share most every part closely related to the 4Runner as well. This is not to mention Cadillac SUV's to be rebadged Chevy's.
We also own a Lexus RX330 and ES330. The 4Runner feels quieter and has a solid ride these car based vehicles cannot match. Furthermore, the 4Runner is the only car I have driven which is void of squeaks and rattles feeling like a vault. The interior fit, finish and materials are excellent easily can fit in any Lexus. Excellent car at any price with dependabilty and build quality others can only dream of....read morehide

- A sports car in SUV garb1 never have to worry about merging in traffic.
This is my second 4 Runner. I had a 2001 Limited 4X4 that save me several times in the snow. Now that I have settled in an area that does not see snow, I opted for a 2 wheel drive version. The electronic vehicle stability and brake distribution all add to a solid feel. This is a great vehicle but you really have to know what you want before buying your own. Many options and after market goodies to add on. This vehicle rides better with cargo or loaded. it's designed to haul cargo and can be a little "skippy' with just a driver and no cargo. It's a truck based vehicle with a frame and not a unibody so it fight torque on a ough road but the ride may seem a little stiff on the paved streets or highway. It is wider than the old 4 runner but not super wide like car based SUV. car based SUVs can't fit the narrow fire trails ! Know what you wnt BEFORE you buy...read morehide
