2006 Toyota Avalon

- Good fuel economy on highway, comfortable quiet ride, nice looking car
- Transmission slippage, hesitation, gear searching, steering column clicks, engine clicks
I love the look of this avalon. It rides nice, comfortable, the touring suspension handles well for a large car minus some road noise and bumps.
My biggest complaint is with the transmission. It searches for gears at low speeds, sometimes it gets confused when merging at highway speeds and the engine rev's for a few seconds before it decides to engage the gears. The drive train on this car is just a complete mess. It's terrible.
I have a love hate relationship because if it didn't have transmission issues it would have been the perfect car for me. I have owned it less than a year and am looking for a replacement already. Very dissapointed in Toyota....and this is my third toyota. I will prob just buy a maxima or a hyundai...
Stay away from this car unless you will spend 100% of the time on the highway.
WHen I spent 25k for a used toyota, i expected something better than this....read morehide

- great fuel economy, tons of leg room, very powerful
- ride is a little loose
I found the avalon to have alot of power, especially off the start. its a great looking car and great on fuel. The car receives alot of compliments on its looks and spacious interior. You can't beat this car for its price.

- GREAT ACCELERATION,COMFORTABLE,BEST VALUE FOR THE MONEY
This vehicle is by far better than my old lexus gs300 (2002) Toyota has hit a home run with this body style. It does not feel like an "OLD PERSOs" car. Neede the room for my kids because the wife refuses to drive a van and I am super glad that I listened to her.
Toyota keep it up.....

- The car gives you a nice solid ride, and comfort is good. Good value.
Good value. Beter than most models that will cost you double the price. Just bought a Touring Model and it has good tirm, comfort, big car ride, with a moderate price. If you buy you will not go wrong. If folks compare and really do their homework thay will be happen with this car.

- Looked good till 3700 mile trip , now after waxing the hood is full of paint chips
- Cruise control surges and trans downshifts when you hit resume (NOT SMOOTH LIKE BUICK)
Bought car 8/31 and took off on 3700 mile trip. The cruise control surged every time you hit resume, no matter up-or-downhill to get you back to speed. It should do it smoothly without downshifting and sometimes it does it twice.
I believe it cost me a ticket because I had just hit resume and highway patrol came over the crest of the hill from other direction a mile away at that moment. It was set at 71 and he said clocked at 77mph. No other car ever driven does such a thing...
I returned to dealer and they said that's the way they are, nothing can be done. Very unhappy with this problem.
I took the car for a professional wax job and then noticed several paint chips on hood, lights and chrome. Very poor quality, thin paint job. The trip was in good weather, mostly Intersate, overall average mileage was about 28.6. Engine seems to have a lot of power but is noisy. I'm sorry now I didn't stick with Buick.
Sun roof is very noisy when open, very unusable....read morehide

- Very smoth and quiet ride, also very spacious interior and trunk. We love it.
- very good
I love my car, is like it a lexus...............:) i am so happy.......The keyless feature is great, the car interior lights go no when I approach the car. The fob never needs to leave your pocket. It is truly a Lexus with Toyota emblems and price. Have had the car for 9 months. Nothing in its price rang comes close. No problems. ......read morehide

- Great gas mileage and comfort.
- Side mirrors don't fold in, no door trim protection,
I love the way this car handles. We preferred the touring suspension over the luxury drive (too mushy for me). I don't understand all the complaints about headlights and cheap trim etc...I thought I liked the infiniti G35 until I test drove and talk about cheap looking interior-ride was way too stiff and no leg room in back seat. The Avalon is so comfortable for all passengers. I didn't get a gps system so that isn't a problem-the sound system is excellent. I have gootten 32mpg highway....read morehide

- I've gotten up to 23 MPG in city driving, smooth ride, comfy leather seats, Optitron gauges
- Condition I received it in seemed like it was used; had several minor scratches all over.
I love the JBL Synthesis system. It makes driving even more fun. I never thought I'd use the cassette deck that came with it, until yesterday. Works great in hooking up my iPod through a cassette adapter. I guess it makes up for the lack of an auxilliary port.
Acceleration is smooth, but is a bit sluggish at the the start. But after 30/40 mph, it picks up fast.
I love my car. It has a lot of goodies for its price range, but Toyota's quality standards must have gone down. The longer I have this car, the more imperfections I have found. One corner of the glove compartment isn't aligned with the underside of the dash, front passenger's door controls isn't aligned with the door armrest, I found a strip of metal (like the one from the dipstick) sticking out from under my car while washing it, there was rubber/plastic material sticking out between where the spoiler and trunk meet, and when i sat in the back, i noticed the passenger's headrest is crooked. Whoever sewed it either sewed it too tightly on one side or didn't stuff it enough.
I sure hope Toyota picks up on their quality of cars. Maybe they should build their cars back in Japan....read morehide
