Purchased As New
I bought this Avalon new in 2006 and I must say this has become my favorite daily driver of all the cars I've had and I've owned many. It just turned 184,000 miles. In that time I have not had one single mechanical problem. I did have the oil line recall fixed even though it never leaked. I had the accelerator recall done even though that never was a problem either. (NASA recently proved it impossible to have unintended acceleration. Ive consistently changed the oil. I had to replace the battery once but this car has the original spark plugs, water pump, serpentine belt, alternator, etc. EVERYTHING, its amazingly reliable. The 3.5 liter engine is sewing machine smooth and powerful. Ive averaged 27 mpg the whole time Ive had it. People say its an "old man" car but I dont think so. To me it is a a cheaper and bigger version of a ES350Lexus. The difference between the Avalon and Camry is huge. The feel and drive is just completely different. The Avalon feels like an expensive car and the Camry feels like a budget car. I still dont think I've seen a car with as much rear seat and leg room, its gigantic. The Avalon will carry five large adults with ease....read morehide

- Interior space & appearance, styling, smooth hwy rid
- Hesitates when accelerating in stop & go traffic, rattles in interior
This is actually a new 2007 model. Toyota has learned and applied nothing from customer feedback on 2005 & 2006 models. Very frustrating. Most expensive Toyota since 1985 of owning Toyotas and the worst satisfaction.
Don't buy if little nuisances are a big thing to you, like noise and rattles and poor transmission shifting. As it is designed, transmission downshifting is erratic.
Not a great value. Can do better spending less. Would recommend buying a used one if you really want an Avalon. Maybe all the noises and rattles have been fixed and the value would be better if though the transmission design would still be the same.
Suspension is too mushy at expense of handling....read morehide

- Good gas/millage,power engine
- Trans. shift drag when not completely stop.
This is the 2nd time I write the review.Toyota should do something about this trans. problem,it's ruin their reputation.Engine noise is louder than my 97 Camry.Wind noise & cabine noise are loud.I encounte a new problem : the streering machanism make some noise when car strart to move,I can feel some play( gap) from the streering wheel. Will take to the dealer & hope they don't deny this problem....read morehide

- Decent power,good fuel economy,comfortable
- transmission shift is rough unless you're completely stopped, rattles
Rattles coming from back seat, passenger side and dealer can't seem to fix it. Had 1997 Camry which had far fewer rattles. The transmission surges when you accelerate from slowing down but not stopping completely. For the price,I expected more from this car and from Toyota. After having owned several Toyotas, this may be my last....read morehide

- Trouble free motoring. Quiet. Third Toyota I have bought.
- Steering is a little too light for me. My spouse thinks it's perfect.
This car is the equel of any American vehicle. Interior is very well made. Engine response is excellent. Plenty of get up and go. Excellent trade in.

- smooth handling, comfortable ride..great look,,
- XLS should have heated seats..acceleration could be improved to a faster pickup..
All round great car. Not enough storage room in the trunk.. a little more leg room in the front and back..should have a better stereo sound for the cost. Acceleration too rough, sometimes the accelerator whines before kicking in.. not good when caught in a situation.

- Love the Blizzard White color. Roomy interior. Large trunk.
- Hesitation on acceleration drives me nuts! Rotten egg smell upon acceleration. Frontend rumble.
Service cannot fix hesitation or rotten egg smell; they cannot find rumble. Also had a problem with the rear door not opening when unlocked (safety hazard). Took 3 tries and a lot of complaining from me for service to fix. Dashboard too busy. Toyota sales misrepresented the autostart feature. Very disappointed....read morehide

- Mediocre acceleration on the highway
- transmission slips when accelerating, bad interior design, 20mpg highway
I was shokingly surprised to find that my 2006 Toyota Avalon (19,000 miles) has very little to offer.
The transmission slips when accelerating from a stop. It's as if the fuel engagement is delayed. Handling around curves and corners is very weak and it almost feels like you're driving a van.
The fuel door often sticks.
The worst thing about the Avalon is the interior. The automatic windows are difficult to control. They always want to go all the way up or all the way down.
The driver/passenger seats are extremely uncomfortable. They are like sitting up against a brick wall.
If you have to hang a shirt on the hook above the rear windows, the shirts will be laying over the back of the seat. It's simply bad design and placement.
When positioning a child seat in the back, it is difficult to reach the anchors behind the bench. It is very difficult to use a child seat in this vehicle.
I would never consider another Toyota. Bad Mistake!!!...read morehide

- fuel, ride, quiet, looks and size
- way to much plastic for the money and car floats
I think the car is a good one, we looked at them all. We have had the car for a little over a year and the only problem has been to
much plastic on the inside.

- This car is a DREAM to drive!
- none that I've found yet
I just purchased a 2007 Avalon XLS and I just truly find driving it a pleasure. I got one equipped with the Navigation System and it seems to lack details at times, but otherwise I have ZERO complaints. Lots of get up and go, maneuvers just great, and it's worth every cent I spent for it. Without a doubt my Avalon is the finest car I've ever owned, the ride is super quiet, pleanty of power, excellent sound system, etc etc. Just NICE to drive!...read morehide
