- Huge trunk space
- Idle at stoplights causes rattles, sunroof controls rattle
I am "satisfied" with my car, however, I have had this car in the shop 4 times since purchase 6 months ago. Each time Toyota fails to fix the problem. Dealing with toyota is a HUGE hassle, although, toyota financial services are very friendly. My main problem is when my car idles at stoplights in drive, the vibration is so bad the hood will rattle and I can hear and feel it. If you shift to neutral this reduces the noise but it is still noticeable. When I tried to get this fixed, toyota said the replaced a faulty part and the problem is solved. Well it was until the next morning.
My other main problem is the overhead lights/sunroof control box. There is a rattle inside that unit that sounds like a loose screw or something. I had toyota "correct" this as well but it came back. The mechanic told me, "all you need to do is hit it and it will go away. Are you kidding me? How about I hit you instead pal.
I would not recomeend this car to anyone....read morehide

- Fuel economy, motor has great power and handles great
- Small interior, if you are 6 feet or taller don't buy this car
This car drives wonderfully, if you can get past the fact that I hit my head on the ceiling and am only 6 01. The car gets great gas milage and handles well. Although my wife's Subaru does handle better.
The real issue I have with the car is the interior. The interior light/sunglass holder has a rattle in it. I have taken it back to the dealership twice trying to get them to fix it and they "can't find it." Also, the moonroof can not be opened over 40 MPH without making a dreadful noise. They also can not fix this.
I actually hate the rattles and poor interior workmanship enough that I am going to sell the car....read morehide

- GREAT MPG, NICE RIDE QUALITY & HANDLING, VERY QUICK,
- GET LEATHER! V-RATED TIRES WEAR QUICKLY
I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT MY HALF-PRICED TOYOTA SC430. OH, I MEAN SE SPORT SOLARA V6! EVERYTHING IS ABSOLUTELY TOP NOTCHED ABOUT THIS CAR AND THERE IS REALLY NO COMPETITION WITHIN $2000 OF THIS CAR. THE SPORT SUSPENSION HANDLES BEAUTIFULLY AND THIS CAR IS QUICKER THAN THE ACURA TL TO 0-60!!! DON'T BE FOOLED BY HP NUMBERS. THIS CAR HAS 240 LB-FT OF TORQUE. I AM STILL AMAZED THAT THIS CAR HAS MORE QUALITY AND PERFORMANCE THAN ANYTHING UNDER 25K. I COMMUTE 90 MILES EVERYDAY AND I AM SO GLAD I GET TO DO IT IN MY RED COUPE.
I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THE CONVERTIBLE, BUT I THINK THE COUPE HAS A BETTER PROFILE....read morehide

- Great lines, excellent fuel economy, cost/value
- 5 speed, shifter not as smooth as I'd like
To purchase a 4 cyl, 5 speed for under $21,000.00 is a great deal. With fuel cost exceeding $2.00 a gal. you can't go wrong. The 4 cylinder with manual transmission is pretty peppy. If you want a V6 have to settle with an automatic, no fun.
You don't see many Solara's on the road, and that's okay when you're on the road the car turns some heads.
If you snooze you lose......read morehide

- great appearance
- ride is trucklike has more rattles then a deadman
My 2004 solara se v6 rides like a truck. The drivers seat lacks lateral and lumbar support. The windnoise over 100 kph is disgusting. My car has several annoying rattles-dash near stearing wheel, sunroof, right c-pillar,parcel shelf.Themost annoying rattle of all is in the rear right strut tower.I am told suspension is hitting body. This vehicle is not up to the Toyota quality standards I have grown to expect. This vehicle is not better than the G.M. junk I used to drive. Please give me back mt camry!!!!!!!!!...read morehide

- Nice Handling, great pickup, very sleek looking, everything I wanted without spending tons of money
- Difficult to parallel park, getting out of back seat, rear head room, dashboard noises
This is my first car that I have ever purchaced. I am 6'4 and 22 years old, so I wanted something that I could fit into but that would also look and feel sporty. I was comparing the various Solara models and also the Honda Accord Coupe. I like the Lexus SC 430 but A) it's too small, and B) I don't have the money! Fortunately, I think the Solara is a more practical vehicle that looks like a bloated version of the SC 430...so I get the best of both worlds; cheaper and bigger, with a similar look.
I decided on the SE Sport because I liked the way it drove. It had a little bit of a tighter suspension and came with 17" wheels, so I think it gave the car a bit more of a sporty ride. My Mom owns a Camry and I felt that the SE and SLE gave a similar, more living room ride, which I was not looking for. I also decided on the V6 because it definitely has more pickup and I do a lot of highway driving (I get about 30 mpg on the highway). I also got it with leather, the 6 disc JBL system, moon roof, and in Black (I think it looks the best in black, if you can keep it clean)
Unlike another review I read, you do NOT have to put Premium gas in the car. Although it is recommended for higher performance, Regular is pefectly acceptable according to the owners manual; and has been working great for me! I was a little nervous about head room because the moonroof takes away some of the space, but, I feel ok in the 05 model. This could be do to the fact that I have the power seat and leather (the manual seat may not adjust as much). Plus, I sit back a little bit further, so, the head room works for me.
A few cons to this car are that it is very difficult to parallel park because you can barely see in front of you and is almost impossible to see behind you. Back seat is kind of tough to get out of, and the sloping rear window makes head room very tight (although I worry about neither since I'm driving 99% of the time!) One thing that definitely bothers me are the sqeaks and noises from the dash. I think my Mom has the same issues with the Camry, so it could just be a Toyota thing.
Overall, I'm very happy with my car. It's just about as loaded as you can get with the SE Sport V6, is cheaper than the Accord Coupe V6 and give you just as much (except traction control) and give you a better ride. I usually drive some distance for work and have an enjoyable ride with my car. Great pickup and soundsystem make for an enjoyable multi hour ride....read morehide

- Head Turning Exterior, Smooth Silent Performance, Impeccable Interior, Peppy 4 cyl
- Thing is as big as a boat!
Ok, I admit it. I have a sickness. I have to have a new car every year. I promise though, this is the last one for at least 3 years. I am enthralled with this purchase. Before deciding on a car, I was driving to work and I noticed a Lexus coming toward me. Slowing down to get a better look at this red beauty, I did a u turn and got behind it. Lo and behold, this fantastic looking car was none other than a Toyota Solara Coupe. I couldn't believe my eyes. After work, I went right to the local Toyota dealership to get a better look. I was sold immediately at first glance. Needless to say, this baby was mine in just a few days.
Lets start at the EXTERIOR. I purchased what perhaps is the best color for this car....the Artic White Pearl. This color shimmers in the light of a dealership, but even more so in direct sunlight. Absolutely Gorgeous!. It's not your typical white, but more a sparkling frosted white. You have to see it to appreciate the beauty. The car is basically a spitting image, yet a larger version of the Lexus SC 430 Sport Coupe. A Y shaped hood line exposes huge teardrop Projector Headlamps, while the aggressive looking body elegantly gets higher as it approaches the rear. Matching large teardrop brake lights and a small spoiler complete the sculpted body. Standard fog lamps, 17" alloy wheels and complete body kit gives the Solara a look that is near indescribable. It is truly a magnificent looking automobile. One that has heads turning at every stop light.
Starting up the car, you can hardly notice the ENGINE is running. It is near silent in operation. Putting the car in drive and accelerating, it was obvious that this was a 4 cyl car. It could have used more ponnies initially, but once on the highway, it was a different story all together. Once this car is over 40, the thing flys. It took nearly no time at all to reach 85, and I couldn't believe it was moving that fast. Virtually no wind noise comes into the cabin, while the sport tuned suspension takes bumps like a pure champ. Even at high speeds, the engine remains silent, while the performance of the transmission is smoother than silk. The performance is Lexus like in every respect. This 157hp engine is very spunky on the highway. Why buy the 6cyl?. It's not necessary, plus it uses premium fuel. Toyota really knows how to build silent fantastic engines.
Going into turns, there was little body roll. The car responded as if it were on rails. Backing the car up and checking for rear moving vehicles, I noticed a blind spot. Just adjust your mirrors and be careful. The stereo needs a bit of help...An amplifier and new speakers would be a welcome addition. My first tankful of gas returned 27.5 mpg. Not too shabby for such a large car, and I'm sure it will get even better as time goes on. One negative thing is a tire pressure gauge that lights up on your display when the computer senses that you are running low on air. Great in theory, but after my initial drive, the darn thing comes on. I check the pressure on all 4 tires and make the slight adjustment in pressure that was needed. The light still stays on, and I have no clue why. I nice thought, but a frustrating adventure trying to figure out what tire needs adjustment.
Summing this up, this has to be the value of the century. Stunning exterior, combined with awesome performance and at a more than reasonable cost. This is definietly a Lexus automobile in Toyota clothing. Run to your nearest dealership and buy this today. You'll have a smile plastered on your face forever. truly, an awesome car in every respect. Oh, forget the Honda Accord Coupe. This car puts that to shame in every way....read morehide

- Great Ride. Amazing room in the back seat. Has the appearance of a significantly more expensive car.
- The ergonomics: a little awkward for my 6'1 200 pound frame. Slow off the line
"WE BOTH RACE OUT THE DOOR TO GET TO THE SOLARA FIRST EVERY MORNING".
The 04/05 Solara looks more like a Lexus than anything else (both inside and out) I recently bought a 2005 Camry for my wife, and the 2005 Solara for myself. The difference is night and day. The Camry feels like a Camry but the Solara looks drives and just feels like a Lexus.
MOTOR: The acceleration of the 4cyl 157hp motor is NOT fast by any stretch, although unless you plan on drag racing this car, it is more than capable of holding it's own around town and on the freeway. The reliability of a Toyota 2.4 liter motor is unmatched so you know that reliability is top notch as expected with ANY Toyota.
ECONOMY: I average exactly 24.4 mpg.
INTERIOR: You would never know that you were sitting in a Toyota when you first get into the NEW Solara. The finish of the interior is a combination of Class, Sophistication and ingenuity. Toyota has built onto their Super FUNCTIONAL layout and added refinement and appeal. The combination of modern and luxury have set the Theme
RELIABILITY: I put 220,000 miles on my Toyota 4x4 2.4 liter in High School and it was still running great, I would have still driven it across the country and I expect that the longevity and reliability of the Solara will be even more substantial.
Overview: The ride you experience from the Solara is comfortable, exciting, and smooth and responsive. I am very pleased with my 05 Solara and would suggest that you test drive everything else first. Then just go buy a Toyota.
Thanks for your commitment to QUALITY TOYOTA!!!!!!
One final note then I am going to shut up! Shop around. Not just for price, but financing!!!!
Not every dealer will offer the same financing. I paid 6.9% for mine, and then I saw other dealers that were offering 1.9% SO DO YOUR HOMEWORK. AND DONT feel like you have to buy the car the same day you start to negotiate. Its better to disappoint the Salesman than spend tons of extra money because you didnt shop. Trust me I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE!!!!. Also check Clarkhoward.com he is the best consumer resource that is committed to helping consumers for free!!!!!
