Purchased As New
I owned a 1999 Toyota Camry for two years and 40,000 miles. I changed the engine oil every 5000 miles, all highway driving. I was one of the unfortunate ones with a V6 model that got the "engine sludge" issue. The engine self-destructed just after 40,000 when a glob of oil got stuck and starved the engine. The killer was the oil was changed at the dealership just 3000 miles before (the engine died at 43,000).
Toyota said sorry, you are out of luck - you will have to sue us to get anything out of us. Sorry Toyota, after buying cars for years from you (Toyota Cressida before this, and a Toyota Corolla before that), I am done subsidizing R&D while the quality problems are fixed.
