- Reliability, comfort, sufficient horsepower for 4 cyl.
Purchased As New
I bought an '05 Camry (base model) w/ standard transmission back in 11/04. It currently has 60,000 miles on it (25,000 of which was driven in the first year). It has mostly been driven on the highway. I'm quite amazed that after almost 5 years and 60,000 miles, I'm still on the original brakes. I have not had one problem with it. My only gripe is the paint/finish. Even with a dealer-applied 5-yr Simonize super-wax treatment, it still has deep scratches (almost gouges) at the front of the hood. I assume its from driving on the highway and little strikes from stones. But still, these are deep. There are a few other chips on the body that seem to be a little deeper than just a surface scratch. Other than that, I very much recommend this vehicle....read morehide

- handling, ride comfort, fuel economy, controls and displays, interior room
- seat comfort, engine noise, road noise
Overall, a very well thought out design. The car handles with precision and is more sporty than my previous '00 camry. On the highway, the car sails effortlessly at 80-85 mph maintaining a stable, smooth ride. I have to look at the speedometer often to keep myself from going faster. I average about 32 mpg highway.
Inside, everything is where it should be. Easily reached controls, good driving position (I'm 5'6"), armrest is perfect, and the wide foot well is appreciated on long trips. On the down side, the seat back is too narrow for me which makes my shoulders feel squished between the side bolsters. The shape of the seat also makes me sit slightly hunched over. The seat is also higher than it needs to be. For fun, I jacked the seat up as high as it would go. My head was jammed up against the ceiling so that my shoulders were almost touching! I guess that's the setting Santa's elves would use.
The engine is smooth and the transmission is perfectly mated to it. I've read complaints about the transmission hesitating on acceleration. This is normal for transmissions with intelligence. My wife's subaru impreza wagon hesitates even worse. It's something you have to get used to. One annoyance, the engine has an extra humming noise at idle that rises to a muted growl upon acceleration. I guess some people like that, but for me it's just added noise. My '00 camry's engine was quieter. Road noise is higher than I would like, but I believe it's due to the Bridgestone Potenza RE92 tires. I'll be replacing them soon.
So far, no reliablility issues. The car is solid, refined. Good value for the money. But, when is the new car smell going to go away? I hate that chemical smell....read morehide

- Gas consumption, brakes, power, rust at 15,000 miles
I bought this car to replace my '02 Camry that was hit. I wanted something that would get good mileage. I was wrong! The new car gets less than 27 mpg. The sticker said 34 on the hiway. The sticker on my '02 said 30 and I was getting close to 29.9 mpg. The dealership said I get what I've got. No chance of anything better. I am not a happy customer!...read morehide

- luxary feel, good fuel economy, solid built, roomy
- hasitate, brakes
I bought this car three days ago and I was surprised about the performance of this car, it is surely worth to keep such a car, the only little dispointment that i received this car with brake problem and they have fixed it. Inteririors are not excellent but very much acceptable, i will recommend to any one considering an affordable and good resale value car....read morehide

- My 2004 Camry is HORRIBLE.
The Engine girgles, hesitates, and has no power. 2 dealerships so far cannot figure it out. The rear brakes constantly become "unaligned" and don't work. This is one of the worst cars I've ever owned.

- First class engineering for very short money
- none so far
It's no wonder this is the top seller year in and year out. The car is an exellent value right off the lot and it's a good bet you won't be disappointed in it's value if you go to trade it in a few years down the road. Basically it's Lexus light. The suspension is a little stiffer than the previous Camry design ('97-'01) and holds the corners much better. The JBL CD system is top notch for this price. The auto transmission is a 5 speed and might take a bit to get used to. But once you do you'll love it, especially for city driving. Seats sit high (adjustable) and visibility is excellent. The 4 cylinder engine will never let your passengers know it's a four cylinder. This thing acts, sounds and responds like most V6 engines, and get's on average 28 MPH. If your looking for a midsize 4 door this is the best "investment" for the money....read morehide

- too numerous to mention
the windshield are bad.they have to be changed thrice a year.brakes clank a lot and the layout of controls in the car are stupid.why spend your precious money to buy this car when there are so many problems .get a Mercedes E class.though it is a few bucks costlier you get the worth of your money

- Several neat Standard features
This Camry is an excellent combination of quality, performance and value in one Car. Car is built in consideration of various users. It has JBL CD AM/FM, Auto transmission, power windows, power locks, fuel economy for 2.4L engine is also impressive, I got 28 MPG on highway/city drive, only two item LE has extra is keyless entry (if you install alarm system it will become keyless entry) and mirrors of standard Camry are black only. Car has excellent pick-up, transmission shifts very smoothly. Looks is very close to entry level Lexus. This is a top pick for the price....read morehide
