2008 Toyota Camry User Reviews
LE 5-Spd AT shown
- $9,766 - $13,700
- Highway fuel economy, styling, audio system
- transmission, engine response, interior rattles, city fuel economy
I have owned this car for seven months (2007) and after owning two prior Camry's (1987 & 1998) I am somewhat disappointed with this car. It looks nice on the outside, has a nice interior (although I have noticed various rattle noises), and so far has been reliable however the cons of this car have made me very unhappy so far. The transmission will change gears awkwardly (low end gears), the car has multiple interior rattles, in town gas mileage is about 19-22mpg (and I don't drive aggressively), exterior paint has developed some chips (not from highway debris), and sometimes the lag between pressing the accelerator and the car actually moving takes a sec or two. I have been a Toyota owner for twenty+ years but I am not sure I will ever buy another Camry. Overall this car has not lived up to it's predecessors - hopefully the people at Toyota are not getting "full" of themselves as they get bigger and realize these cars are not built to the quality levels they were in the past....read morehide

- good appearance
- constant rattles, dashboard, performance hesitation, gas mileage
Lookout Toyota Camry lovers! This car "is not" what it used to be. The constant rattles and squeaks from cheapened materials used in the dashboard assembly will have you annoyed for sure. Go ahead and read the other reports on this car. We all agree. The really poor gas mileage makes me ashamed I thought to believe the EPA stated on the sticker. Toyota tells me "It must be my spirited driving" that contributes to my great loss of gas mileage... They do not seem to care. My previous car was a 05 Corolla and I got almost the MPG posted. The Corolla is far more superior. More precision, more torque and NO dashboard noises. I cannot believe the lack of "feel" towards a higher end car. I am unloadindg my Camry for the Corolla! Read the other reports people. Even in the road tests, these complaints are frequently mentioned. It is a great looking car though... Too bad...read morehide

- Sporty appearance, sporty feel, tons of power, JBL system, Bluetooth
I've had my SE V6 for 1.5 weeks now...and I'm lovin it. This car is fun to drive. It has plenty of power and hugs turns like the tires are glued to the pavement.
Initially, I was hesitant on the V6 because it wasn't recommended by Consumer Reports last year. I did some research and found that early 2007 Camry V6's had some problems and Toyota has since fixed it. So far, my V6 and trannie have been running flawlessly.
For such a sporty car, the SE V6 is very affordable. I went through the Costco Auto Buying Program ($500 over invoice) and ending up purchasing the vehicle at invoice ($26,200). It's worth every penny....read morehide

- the car looks good..runs smooth
- none so far
i traded my 03 camry for this one and so far i'm very happy. i've put almost 300 miles on the car, both highway and city. the car is super comfortable and very quiet, even on the highway. i bought the metalic gray which i think looks great.
there is more plastic than my 03 but the interior looks good and so far i havn't had any noise problems with the interior.
as far as saftey, i love the abs and all the airbags.
i didn't test drive the altima or the accord, so i can't compare them but i'm not mad that i didn't..very happy with this car. i put alot of research into the car itself along with some serious negotiations with dealerships and i think i did well with both the choice and price..
my advice is to shop til you get as close to invoice as you can, get what your trade is worth, and shop til you get the loan your credit score merits..lazy people and people full of fear(shopping around/negotiating) get ripped buying cars....read morehide

- gentle, nice looking even luxury.Good acceleration.
- bridgestone tires go slimer after 40k miles.
I drove many cars in this class and finally chose Camry.
My advice if it matters to you:
If you are looking for a mid size sport sedan dont buy Camry. You shoud buy an Altima(Those who are not satisfied with their Camry are in this category).
If you are looking for a gentle, convenient, worthy car you may buy , and to be good looking, classical and luxury dosent matter to you may buy an Accord. But if all those are important to you sould buy a Camry.
Even it could be classified in a larger class in size....read morehide

- locking mechanism on the gas cap, nice wiper blades
- Slow Slow what can I say -poor gas mileage, squicky seats, slow
07 camry vs 01 Camaro SS . Tried to pull behind a camaro and nearly lost my shoe. Put the pedal to the medal and lost to a Camaro! unbelievable! even though I have the newer car! Next mod is to put a new v6 engine with twin turbo bored out, maybe then it will put up a challage, will try again, if not - will have to put 175hp nitrous too. People tells me cant handle this kind of boost, but I DONT CARE because the car is supposed to be reliable. Why did I buy this car then? if it cant....read morehide

- I rented it, I don't own it!
- poor paint/exterior finish,hunting transmission,interior fit/finish
This car is a totally bland driving experience. It does nothing exceptionally well. Outside, this example had poor paint quality with the bumpers being three shades darker than the rest of the car, the door sills did not line up well and inside, the dash looked like a cheap ill fitting video game console. The trim pieces butting up to the radio area had sloppy fit and did not line up with the rest of the dash. The seats had multiple areas where extra threads were showing, which surely will lead to tears. The ride was only fair and power reasonable. Gas mileage was nothing to write home about either. The trasmission was horrible. This thing never knew which gear it was supposed to be in and it, combined with a snowstorm, led to me walking a half mile uphill to get home. The car could not pull a small hill in snow because the tires continued to spin no matter how lightly you pressed the gas pedal. The transmission just did not allow the car to move forward and uphill. All I can say is I have no idea why they sell so many of these cars, they do not have the quality everyone says they do.....I think they sell strictly on former quality that is now sorely lacking....read morehide
