2009 Toyota Corolla User Reviews
XRS 5-Spd AT shown
- $9,267 - $12,124
- Looks good, smooth ride, should have kept clock and temp separate like the previous generations
- brake dust galore, same as previous generations, cheap plastic interior but i can live with it.
I love this car, very quiet ride and already comes with audio controls on the steering wheel.
The 09 corolla drives and rides very smooth like a Lexus. Engine is very quiet compared to our 03 corolla.
Hoping to keep this forever with todays gas prices.

- Good fuel economy for this time, but no better than FORD FOCUS or CHEVROLET COBAL
- Look ugly, ride the same as old model, pricy compared with GM Cobal
This car look ugly, driving no different from GM Chevrolet Cobal. Slow pickup/speed up. I would take CHEVROLET COBALT or FORD FOCUS for couple thousands less

- Good Fuel and thats all
- Ride is smooth
I bought this car a month ago and i love the gas mileage it gives 26.44 MPG average, compre to a van i used to drive which was 16 MPG
I also have 2005 Camry which is worth what i paid for, comapre to corolla. Inside dash looks good but the plastic is very cheap.
Price is a lot more compare to the quality, but its Toyota thats why people buy it.
I would suggest Nissan Sentra would be a better buy, but by the time i realised it, it was too late. The payemts would have been $50 less than corolla....Bad thing about Sentra is they dont have power mirrios on their base model. Gas mileage is 25 MPG comapre to corolla 27 MPG.
If you are looking for future, Corolla will have good resale value comapre to any small cars and its more mileage...Good Luck....read morehide

- Loooks great; good gas mileage if you don't puch it.
- Bad suspension, Whiny power steering, clearcoat blistering on certain spots
We have had this vehicle for a month now and it has been in the shop over a week. Took it in for rattle, creky noise from the undercarriage...turns out it was the suspension. It also developed a whiny power steering. So, the struts and towers for them were replaced as well as the steering column. This did not fix the problem with the steering wheel...so they had their regional tech engineers try to fix the problem and he had a computer module that regulates the steering with the speed and this didn't work either...we were told that this engineer fixed a few other thing and that the steering wheel was fixed but while the vehicle was still there a new problem arose with a brushing sound from the engine and that the engineer couldn't fix that one...so we were reccomended to take it back to the dealership before we contacted an attorney. We are very surprised that this happened but I guess since it has been redesigned that the bugs haven't been all worked out yet. Probably going to upgrade to a camry eventhough the gas mileage isn't as great....read morehide

- Refined engine, cheap to insure, cheap to buy in Canada
In under 200 km there are plenty of rattles: the moonroof, the headliner, the rear package shelf, the rear seats, the passenger door, and the dashboard. It stalled once and wouldn't restart at 58 km requiring a call for road-side assitance; but eventually it got going on its own and hasn't stalled again. Not surprisingly no explanation was found. Hopefully it was a one-time fluke.
Fifth gear is very short. Consequently driving in the city in fifth gear is very easy and very relaxing. But the engine is very busy on the highway. Its perfect for commuting in the city, which is what I bought it for.
The steering and brakes are numb. But no worse than a Civic (however unlike auto journalists I found the Civic's handling to be mediocre at best). Unlike most competitiors the engine is so smooth you don't feel it through the steering wheel. Engine vibration was a lot of the feedback I found in many of the competitive vehicles with supposedly better steering.
The dealer installed rub strips don't reach the edges of the door limiting their utility.
In Vancouver it was almost $2000 cheaper than a comparable Civic after taxes and incentives and $240/year cheaper to insure with maximum claim-free discount. An amazing value in Canada, but the interior is starting to make me wonder whether the savings were worth it....read morehide

- Good fuel economy, comes with side air bags which is safer for everyone, more leg room
- Brakes makes noise
The car has a nice body style, better suspension, the sound system is better, the car has a lot of different options in it, there is a lot of storage places to put things in the car, and it drives much smoother.

- Avg city/hwy fuel economy. 25.7 mpg
- Unstable Electric Power Steering
Disappointed with the way the vehicle drives. Electric powering steering is unstable and wanders off the road.

- No trim specified for this review
- Mileage, comfort
- Put you to sleep styling, slow on take off, buzzy engine, no exterior trim, expensive, quality
Have regretted not buying a larger more distinctive car. This one gets the job done but is very boring and dull and looks like every other boring Toyota on the road. Where is this Toyota quality that everyone is talking about? Mine has been in the shop 3 times for noises in the steering, engine idle shudder at traffic lights and a transmission that doesn't always shift when it should. Some interior plastic is hard and scratces easy and heaven help you if you park close to another car as Toyota has removed the protective door trim from every single one of it's bland sedans so door jam city for this car. This car gets a solid D from me and I doubt I will buy another Toyota again....read morehide

- Nice body style, brand reputation
- Pricey, noisy and average assemble
I just bought my Corolla XLE last week with 18 miles on it. I love this updated body style on the Corollas. The Corolla doesn't break any new ground, but the styling is elegant for the compact segment.
Making its first impression is the electric power steering; while such system produce vague steering feel, it is pretty comfortable and easy to drive at lower speed. On the highway it gets tossed around easily and watches those corners because handling is hazy. I...read morehide
