2009 Toyota Corolla User Reviews
XRS 5-Spd AT shown
- $9,267 - $12,124
- Gas mileage, good in snow, comfortable seats, rides fairly quiet
- Bland style, no exterior rub strips, pricey, no 5 or 6 speed automatic, cruise should be std
Toyota really could have done a better job on exterior styling because it just looks like a plainer version of last years model with the now done to death Camry, Yaris, Matrix grille. The 1.8 liter engine and old 4 speed automatic get the job done but forget about top notch power or technology. The interior looks slightly different but equally dull and unexciting. I also am surprised that cruise control and a cigarette lighter aren't included in the very pricey $17310 base price and it still uses plastic hubcaps whereas the Hyundai cars use alloy wheels in there upper tier versions. On the bright side gas mileage is pretty good and the car goes through the snow well. It is also pretty comfortable and easy to drive at lower speed. On the highway it gets tossed around in high wings easily and watch those corners because handling is not this cars forte....read morehide

- No trim specified for this review
- Decent mileage, quiet, safety features
- overpriced, no bodyside moldings, still uses a 4 speed automatic, cheap interior bits, bland styling
Was looking for a lower cost subcompact with decent mileage and gave the new 09 Corolla a try. I had to look hard to tell that I was driving a redesigned "all new" model because other than the Camry copied grille and deconteneted bodyside moldings, it looks almost the same as the 2002-2008 generation. The interior is a bit better but still bland. The best feature of this car was it's smooth quiet ride. But handling is soft and unsporting and larger bumps make the car bop up and down suggesting that a firmer suspension is in order. The 1.8 liter engine feels much as before with a little more refinement but is still rather slow and buzzy. Also the sticker was nearly $17000 and cruise control was not included and is a seperate option for another $250.00! Also how did Toyota think slapping a Camry grille and removing the bodyside protection moldings was going to create an all new look? I wasn't fooled....read morehide
