2008 Toyota Highlander Hybrid User Reviews
- $18,331 - $22,791
- Spacious, interior well done, nice exterior lines, an overall very eye pleasing and nice driving
- rougher ride on 19" rims, even at low speeds does not always stay in EV mode
My last vehicle was a 4Runner (which I think I prefer) but with ever-increasing fuel prices, the hybrid was likely a good move. The Hybrid-Limited is pricey but comes with all the features you may need or want. I have the car only two months and still get reminders to turn off the motor before locking it....read morehide

- Mileage better than other SUV's, quietness and ride, room
- Very expensive, CVT quirky and at odds with hybrid system, dull styling, handling, not fun to drive
Test drove a base Highlander hybrid and did like the room and comfort of the interior even if some of the bits were hard cheap plastic. The exterior is rather plain and uninteresting but passable. The mileage seemed better than other SUV's I test drove but not by much. Maybe more break in miles would have helped in this regard. The ride and handling are setup for older folks that like a serene un-engaging drive. I also didn't care for the weird CVT that races ahead, shudders and doesn't always seem to know what to do. Question: how much is this all going to cost to fix when the basic warranty runs out?...read morehide

- Great ride, roomy, handles great, fuel economy
- the third row seats should fold separately
Anyone posting about gas mileage concerns with this vehicle clealry doesn't understand how car companies measure gas mileage!
If your Highlander is getting 24mpg and the sticker is statign it should get nearer to 27/29mpg well consider what mileage others are getting in their 20mpg SUVs... hey'll be getting closer to 15mpg.
Miles per gallon statistics are calculated bassed on the very best driving conditions, and even though the mechanism has been improved, the posted numbers are dificult to achieve because real world driving requires faster driving and challenging driving most of the time.
What other SUV with a capacity for 7 people can eve get CLOSE to this vehicle. I recommend that you got othe EPA website and do somereal research.
This vehicle is comfortable, roomy, quiet (ok - so if you open your windows it's loud... erm... all vehicles are loud when the windows are open!)... it also looks like a million dollars (the 2008 does!). Get it fully loaded with Nav. Satellite Radio, DVD etc... your family will love you!
Only minor complaint is that the third row should be able to fold separately allowing more flexibility for storage.
A perfect SUV....read morehide

- Smooth ride, excellent acceleration, comfortable seats for a long trip
- Poor fuel economy for a hybrid.
My 2007 was supposed to get 27 highway and 32 in town. I've had the car 12 months, and the average MPG is 24.7. I've complained to the dealership and they say there's nothing to adjust to improve the gas mileage. Wish I had not traded in my Sienna!

- Good fuel economy, 30mpg, ride smooth
- noisy level with windows open
Not as roomy as previously owned Sienna. Handles beautifully...love this vehicle. Only complaint is that the noise level when the windows are open or sunroof is open; it creates a dramatic throbbing noise.

- Superb. No complaints.
- No memory seats, no trip timer, nav complicated but still learing. These are minor gripes.
It's an amazing car. Sheer class. I did tons of research and test drove almost all of the contenders, but nothing came close to this. It's as luxurious as a Lexus. I have never seen an interior as fine as this one.
If you want an aircraft cockpit, you'll love this car. It's a gadget lover's paradise. However, it's very complicated. The manual on the nav system is huge. They should give classes and a diploma.
If you're not seriously gadget-oriented, it may be overwhelming.
It drives smooth, but not overly smooth. Quiet as a mouse. No wind noise.
The windshield view is panoramic.
JBL speakers are excellent on FM and AUX (for iPod), but Sirius sound is not quite as good for some reason although acceptable.
Bluetooth is first-rate.
I'm getting 26.5 mpg according to the display mixed city/highway. But as its a hybrid when stopped at the lights it is consuming no fuel at all. In a regular car, I may get the same mpg, but it's burning gas while stopped at the lights.
And it uses regular gas!!!!!!! What joy!
Once you've had a hybrid, there's no going back.
It's pretty big if you're coming from a sedan, but you get used to it. However, I'm not looking forward to trying to park it on a street between two cars. I may have to have it lifted into position by a crane.
When I first saw it, I thought the exterior was fugly. Now I think it looks great. It's a bit of an unusual design. I got silver which looks good.
Sorry for raving about the car. I'm just so happy with it....read morehide

- Good looking body style and very, very roomy and spacious.
- Stereo is, ehh, moon roof should open all the way, MPG's not what Toyota claims.
I've owned my Highlander Hybrid for about 2 and a hlf weeks. I know, I'm a green bean hybrid owner...LOL. So far, I just love it! I wish the stereo had more oompf to it and that the moon roof would open completely but oh well. The gas mileage I've been getting is about 22.8 MPG, not quite what they claim but that doesn't surprise me. Coming from Yukon XL, I'll take 22.4 mpg over 10 mpg's anyday! Go Green and Happy Earth Day!!!...read morehide

- Great fuel economy. Quiet ride and competent acceleration.
- Needs to price itself lower or throw in more standard features for the money.
Great trunk space and the JBL stereo rocks! 2nd row is very roomy with the tilt forward seats. The hybrid limited stands tall and is very appealing in style. It definitely looks better than the first generation Highlander Hybrid.

- grest fuel economy, comfort, sound system
- haven't found one
I happen to love my new Highlander Hybrid. I can't complain about a single thing about it. It is quieter than my Lexus RX 300 was. It runs so smoothly that you can't even tell if the gas motor or the electric motor is powering it. I have no problems zipping around other vehicles on the fwy or street if I need to, this car has plenty of power.
I practically live in my car working out of it and schlepping kids around to various sports functions. I drive an average of a 1000 miles a week. My MPG is even better than what the sticker said it would be. I get an average of 29.9 miles to the gallon for both city and hwy.
I don't think that the price tag is that steep, for all the bells and whistles that come on the vehicle. I came from driving a Lexus RX300 and didn't think that I was going to ever love a vehicle more than that one. I needed more room and wanted a hybrid so I test drove the Highlander. I enjoy my new Highlander Hybrid more than my old car....read morehide
