We bought this new with the optional moon roof, 6 disc CD player and upgraded speakers/radio in May 2003. It came with the carpeted floor mats, door edge guards and trim but NOT the 3rd row seats. We didn't really need it until now. LOVE MY HIGHLANDER! We haven't had ANY problems with it at all! With just over 70,000 miles it still looks and runs fantastic. Made a great choice then and hope to make an equally great choice in the future....read morehide

- good sturdy wagon
- A bit slow

I have had this car since new (8 years now) and I have put on 237K miles. Fule milage has averaged about 23 mog overall. About 20 in the urban environment of Orange County ca. and about 26 to 29 on the highway dropping to 20 at a steady 85 mph.
Overall the car has been very reliable. I di blow the head gasket but that was after I toore out a radiator in the desert, so I do not blame Toyota. INterior except the driver seat looks new. That needs to be replaced as the springs are making thier presence known.
The 4 cylinder engine had been a dream EXCEPT a difficult to diagnose water pump failure around 100K. Also the first altenator died at 95 but the rebuilt one is chuggiing away, go figure.
Great for Home Depot runs though it will overload before it cubes out so be careful as the hanldeing is pretty shabby with 2000 lbs of block and gravel in it.
I have been looking to replace this as I no longer really need such a large car but have not found anything that fits the bill for comfort economy and well the thing is paid for and i do not like wasting money. Current plan is to replace the drivers seat (BTW though the springs are saying Hello by feel the seats LOOK fine) and seat belt , and that is about all it really needs.
I have the champange paint job. THis is my second car with this color now spanning 17 years. I really am tired of the color EXCEPT it looks nearly new, and it is hard to tell when it is dirty, which is most of the time.
Tires last 40 to 50 K miles, Brakes 70 to 90 K. Tune ups really about every 35K. Synthetic oil every 10K. Air filter every oil change.
Basically so darn good it is BORING. Insert the key and drive. THis thing is about as reliable as gravity....read morehide
