- Decent fuel economy, very comfortable
- Don't like the feel at higher speeds.
Overall good vehicle but I am used to the handling of German cars so this vehicle is very inferior in the handling and stability.

- Great Comfy Ride, Plenty of power, Very Quiet, Very few problems...
- Shifter can be in the way, Helicopter Cockpit with 1 window down
Well, I have a 2001....so it's 5 1/2 years old now, so at least I can give a review based on a reasonable amount of use.
Overall the cars been great! I can't ask for a more dependable car. It drives well, tows me and my jet ski with plenty of power to spare. The ride is amazing and quiet as it's basically a Lexus 330 when it comes to it's smoothness.
Things that bug me are few.....but they are...the stick shift position. I'm forever hitting the shifter up into neutral as I take a drink out of the drink holder.....be careful on the freeway! The helicopter sound...Well, all's I can say is if the kids are acting up in the back seat, just roll the drivers window down a few inches...the thumping sound from the wind will bounce the kids out of the seats! That or open up the sun roof and you get the same thing until you crack a couple windows a bit. Very wierd Aero Dynamics! Also in a heavy gust of wind the car makes a LOUD screaming noise as the wind runs across the windshield and the car dips to one side...but of course that is only in a gusty wind conditon.
But complaints aside, it's very dependable and has never broken down or needed a serious repair...or any repair really.
I'm sure the 2006's or 7's will be that much more refined than my nearly 6 year old version....read morehide

- Very good fuel economy for a mid-size SUV. Toyota quality.
My wife and I bought our 2006 Toyota Highlander in late June, 2006. As of mid-September we have 4,900 miles on it and are getting our first oil change today. (Toyota recommends 5,000 mile oil changes, dealer says 3,000).
The Highlander 4-cylinder is the most fuel-efficient mid-size SUV in my opinion. We run regular (87) octane gas in it and consistently get 23 mpg in the city. On the highway at 70-75 mph, we get 27 mpg.
The performance is not hindered at all by the 4-cylinder engine. The transmission is geared correctly to allow for good low-end torque to accelerate at a very respectable speed, even fully loaded with 5 pasengers.
It's nearest competitor, the Honda Pilot, does not offer a 4-cylinder version. My sister bought a brand-new Pilot in late July and is getting 15 mpg in the city. No highway mpg yet.
Compared to the RAV4, the Highlander was so much more comfortable and roomy for not that much more money. It's built on the Camry platform so you can't ask for a more reliable starting point.
I personally feel it's the best value for you money in the mid-20's for a mid-size SUV, and you can't beat Toyota reliability....read morehide

- smooth ride, good handling, not bad on gas, looks great to me and my wife
- no complaints
I looked at alot of suv's -- made a mistake of leasing an infiniti crossover whatever it's called and hated it. Drove a jeep for years but it wasn't stable at the speeds it wanted to go (pretty fast) -- so the highlander is not so sporty that it's weird and has blind spots everywhere, not too fast so it is like a bunking bronco, it's just right for getting around town and hauling people and stuff and feeling safe and sound....read morehide

- Fuel economy, nice look, strong car, never problem
- Nothing comments
I have Highlander 2002. I put Xenon XID frontlight and GPS in windshield. This car super strong, never has a problem. Nice ride, strong engine not like Ford and Dodge(drive too rough and not economic car). This car I give 10 point. Even though the price is little bit higher than Ford Escape and equal to Explorer price, but the quality is better even look smaller than Explorer. I recommend buy this car......read morehide

- Fuel is good so far. I'm 6ft and it's roomy for all. Very comfortable
- Can you say WIND THROB. It's horrible
Overall this has been a great buy. I only have 600 miles on it. Most are highway. I ahve a son who is 5'9" and he fits comfortable in the back. The only complaint I have is the wind throb. DO NOT open the rear windows in any combination at 40mph or more. You will be sorry. Never have I experience such pain from that. Thankkfully Toyota is working with me to resolve this problem. Future models may have a cargo window that opens....read morehide

- city MPG is only 3 shy of rating
- 3rd seat is useless. no one over 2 yrs of ages could possibly sit in it; hwy mileage is on 21
can turn on a dime, due to very short wheel base
city mileage of 30 is close to rating of 33
highway mileage of 21 is far short of rating of 30 (or 28)
middle seats are too upright and hard
third row seat is totally useless and a waste of space and weight. No one over 2 feet tall (or 2 years old) could possibly seat in it.
wasted space between front seats, under drink holders, that could have been used for storage...read morehide

- Car Rides well and handles fair.
- Not enough leg room in drivers seat.
I test drove the 2006 Highlander 4 x 2 4 cylinder. I found the car to be stylish and economical. But, there is not enough leg room in the driver seat. I'm 5' 9", but could not get the pwr seat to travel far enough back to find a comfortable position. A fair amount of road noise and tire noise comes through on rough pavement. Nice car, otherwise....read morehide
