- excellent fuel economy, rented this suv from l.a. to tahoe and gets almost 30MPG.
- soft brakes, transmission jerks in high RPM
this is an excellent SUV. rented this car for our annual trip from LA to Tahoe and i get excellent fuel economy. I got 30MPG over-all. My only comment is brake is kinda soft and transmission jerks in high rpm, but over-all this is an excellent car. plenty of space.

- The fuel economy is great I can get up to 26 miles city. Everyone takes a second look.
- My only complaint is need a bit more leg room in the second and third seating.
My family truly loves our new suv. My husband feels great about choosing the suv because of it's safety features. I personally enjoy the stereo system and great air conditioning. I barely feel a bump on the road. The sterring wheel is so easy to manage. I was surprised by how smooth it makes turns. Very light to drive. Wonderful suv. You go Toyota. I never had bought one before, because I didn't like the look of it. It was a tight fit. But, the roomy disposition this time, changed my mind....read morehide

- feels comfortable inside
- Difficult to wait for parts to be imported, fuel cap keeps opening, tyres difficult to replace
The passenger arm rests in the back seat both disintegrated after two months.
Each time the driver exits/enters the vehicle, the fuel cap button gets hit and then opens!
It took four weeks to get a replacement tyre!
The Toyota service quality ) is unfortunately not evident in Maple ridge!

- Reliable, comfort, quiet interior, smooth and powerful engine
- Strong vibration when cold start, so-so MPG, no 50/50 fold 3rd seat
I recently purchased Highlander Base 4x4. I owned a 2003 Camry but I need a bigger car that can sit for six. The 2008 Highlander Base trim come with very nice package and standard feature. The ride is very comfortable and interior is nicely layout and very roomy. First and second row is very roomy and third row seat is fine for short trip.
But the disappointed is the engine has a very strong vibration when cold start....but eventually going away when engien warm up. I have bring back to dealer to check up. Handling and steering feel just ok. Also the mileage is so so, I'm a conservative driver and lite on gas, but I only get around 14mpg mix driving. I'm disappointed with the result and is below the number of toyota advertisting. I recommend Highlander if is not the first year model that I have....read morehide

- New trendy look; vehicle stability over snowy weather; 3rd row seat
- most of the luxury items are optional; little noisy pickup
After studying & test driving many of the crossover vehicle at this category (Honda Pilot, Mazda CX-9, Ford Explorer, Acura MDX, Mitsubushi Outlander), we choose Toyota Highlander. Our criteria was a SUV with third row seat.
The new 08 Highlander looks trendier than previous versions; 7 passenger (2 children under 16) can sit comfortably and enjoy the smooth ride.
This vehicle with 4wd option has superb stability and control over snowy or slippery road.
The pickup is little noisy (engine) at start but once going its very smooth, did not find any noise problem other reviewer experienced.
All luxury items (GPS, backup camera, leather seat, commas, auto seat adj, heated seat) are extra for base model.
Overall its a great car for the price and brand name....read morehide

- Looks nice
- Overpriced and overratted
The engine is way underpowered. lots of road noise. I thought that Toyotas were better. Should have bought Explorer or Trailblazer

- Toyota quality
- size and cost
The lease on my '03 was up so I was looking forward to getting an 08 HL. That was until I saw it at the dealership. I am totally disappointed with Toyota for ruining the Highlander concept with a bloated and costlier design. I was expecting a more fuel efficient crossover with a more stylish design instead of a another box. It appeared like all Toyota was doing was trying to compete with the Honda Pilot which I don't like either. I almost moved over to GM but in the end I ended up getting an '07 Highlander, the last of the breed. As far as I'm concerned the Highlander crossover concept which Toyota pioneered with the RX300 is dead....read morehide
