This is my second Highlander. The first was a FWD '08. This is a 4WD '11. I am somewhat perplexed by the gas mileage complaints posted by other reviewers, as I am finding this truck, which is heavier than the '08, is getting the same mileage......17 around town, and 22 on the highway. I have 3K miles on it now, so the engine is decently broken in. I keep my highway speed around 72 MPH. The steering feel is improved, and the 4WD system works seamlessly. The powerful V-6 works well with the smooth shifting 5 speed transmission. I am disappointed that Toyota has not improved the base radio, and I would like to see better gas mileage, in the neighborhood of 20 city/25 highway. But buyers have to remember that the EPA figures are STILL based on moderate speeds, like 55 MPH on a level highway in dry road conditions. Its more about how and where you drive than anything else, but this is not a light vehicle, and you aren't going to get great gas mileage. Its no different than any other crossover 4WD SUV out there. If it has a V-6 its going to get about 20 to 22 on the road. The GMC Terrain advertises over 30 with the 4 cylinder. Never happen, as it will never be driven at 50 mph. And the acceleration is tepid. I know. I test drove one. I wish the HL had more content for the price like compass/outside temp, roof crossbars, power liftgate, etc. I paid for the reliability proven by my first HL.
