2013 Toyota Highlander
There are 1 user reviews for the Plus 4X4 trim shown below
- Tons of room. V-6 motor is smooth and accelerates very well.
- Small nit to pick, but I wish the Plus would have come with mud flaps
Purchased As New
My wife had a 2008 Volvo S-60 SE that we had bought brand new, and had nothing but problems with it from day one. We were looking for a "family" vehicle that was suitable for both of us to drive, her day-to-day, me on the longer family trips. We looked at the Hyundai Tucson and Santa Fe, the Nissan Murano and Pathfinder, and finally the Toyota Rav4 and Highlander. We needed something small enough for her; (she's 5'-4") and large enough for me (6'-3").
After doing all of the on-line research, we decided to take the above mentioned vehicles for test drives to sort it out. Neither one of us were very fond of the Nissans. They seemed a little too plastic, and chintzy. The Hyundai Tuscon was just too small for me and any passanger that would be seated behind me, and although the Santa Fe Sport was roomy and had a great warranty, the 4 cylinder motor that came with it seemed to struggle with acceleration and was really really loud when you put your foot into it. There were several blind spots that my wife was worried about because of the slanted side rear windowns. We were not interested in upgrading ($$) to the larger "FE" or Limited version which had the 3rd row seating and the V-6.
The Toyota Rav4 was way too small and also only came with a 4 cylinder.
At first sight, my wife was reluctant to even test drive the Highlander because she thought that it was too large. Once behind the wheel though, her opinion changed dramatically. She was happy with the sight lines (Seated up higher than her Volvo, and large square rear side windows), the smooth, quiet engine, and the ample room behind the first and second row seats. She liked the idea of the third row seating for the kids and their friends as well. The final selling point for her was Toyotas bullet proof reliability record, and the 2 year free maintenance plan. After the first snow storm in New England, we decided to buy the Toyota mud flaps because all the ice and snow that built up under the doors and we were worried about damaging the paint and finish. Very happy with them....read morehide
