2005 Toyota Matrix
There are 9 user reviews for the XRS 4X2 trim shown below
- over 32mpg, fun to drive, like the 6 speed
- needs premium gasoline
This is a fun car that gives an illusion of very good performance, while also having room for passengrers and cargo.

- Good fuel economy, excellent fit and finish, value, lots of flexible storage space
- Noisy exhaust and engine, engine lacks useable low-end torque
Purchased my 2005 Matrix XRS in March, 2005. It's silver streak mica with stone colored interior. Traded in a 1995 Nissan Maxima SE for it. Really miss the power of the Maxima, but have learned to like the Matrix for its advantages. For a small relatively inexpensive vehicle, the fit and finish are great. All the doors close with a solid thunk. The fuel mileage has been as advertised at 25mpg city and close to 32mpg highway. The handling too has been very good for a tall front wheel drive vehicle; especially with the optional 17 in. alloys. Dash-mounted plug-in is convenient as is the tire pressure monitor. Even though the 6 speed is kind of clunky, it's still fun to shift through the gears. You kind of have to in order to get the most power out of the engine.
On the downside, the engine is small in displacement, and thus, lacks useable low-end torque. You have to rev the engine to the moon to make the most power. This may not be a problem if you are not in any hurry to get somewhere fast. Around town is fine, but merging onto busy highways takes patience. Furthermore, the engine and exhaust system are on the noisy side, which make for a loud passenger compartment. Also, even though I have the JBL stereo system, I have to turn the volume up a lot while driving just to hear music because of the noise level....read morehide

- Good fuel economy, great ride, nice sportscar growl
- Reverse beep is very annoying.
This is a very nice car. It sounds and feels like an expensive sportscar. Its performance is great. Watch out when you rev up to 7000 rpms because your in for a surprize acceleration. It feel like a turbo without the turbo.Everything inside is nicely placed and accesible. The 110v outlet is a nice thing to have if your a business man. Its good for recharging your phones or for your laptop. Overall it is very good compared to more expensive cars....read morehide

- good fuel economy, very roomy, very fast, and it rides very smoothly
- doors lock as soon as you start your car, they should lock when the vehicle has hit a certain speed
I love this car, I like the syle and the color. I like how it performs but I don't like how the doors lock as soon as you start the car. The locks should automatically lock when you have hit a certain speed.

- easy on gas
instrument panel is black on red and red on black - inpossible to read in daytime while wearing polarized sun glasses
front seat is located somewhat in back of the door post so that when the driver is getting in or out he causes severe wear by rubbing on the rubber moulding

- Lots of power for a wagon, lots of headroom, 17in wheels, body kit, 6-speed manual transmission,
- compartment under gearbox keeps popping open, ok gas mileage, beeping when reversing is irritating
This car is a blast to drive! I bought this car in march 2004 and I've had no problems. Overall Toyota did a good job with this car!

- great in the city and great on the highway. Great gas mileage and fun and drives like a sports car.
- other peoplel do not understand the car's ability. It is a sleeper
It is comfortable all around, fund to drive. very fast and handles turns better than most sports cars. It gets great gas mieage and the harder you drive it the better the gas mileage. The only problem I have is with four children over 16 in the family, they all want to use it leaving me with the old pick up to us....read morehide
