- Great fuel economy considering the horsepower. Loads of room. A wolf in sheep clothing.
- I can't find anything negative to say about the car.
The Xrs model is what the Chevelle SS was in the late 60s. Its a family car, totally reliable, but when Dad (or Mom) want to let it all hang out, it will fly. This car is a total sleeper. When some youngster pulls up next to me at a red light, with a loud coffee can exhaust, gunning his weak Honda Civic engine, I stay quiet. When the light goes to green, he gets a big Xrs surprise. This happens to me every so often, and I have to laugh. I was however completely disappointed when I found that Toyota has dropped the Xrs for the '07 line-up. Instead they came out with an M-theory. M-theory meaning "looks good, but ain't fast". Toyota had a great sporty car here, and then they neutered it....read morehide

- good fuel economy.Plenty of leg room in back.
- Wish it had anti lock brakes. Interior is a little cheap.
I gave up my gas guzeling van for this car. I love it. Yes, I don't have the third seat anymore but the back seat will hold 3 full grown teenagers without a problem. I'm 5'9 and rode 8hrs in the back seat with comfort. I even have to pull up the driver seat. PLENTY of leg room. The cargo area is more than enough room.
I like it because I feel like I'm driving a sports car. It handles curves great. Very smooth ride. I did have my windows tinted. That helps a whole lot in the south in summer months.
My 16 yr old wants this car for herself. You can make it look very sporty....read morehide

- good mileage, quick rev happy engine.
- Shifter difficult to get used to.
The matrix XRS is a great sport hatchback. Comfortable seating position, fun to drive the 6 speed (even in traffic), Toyota reliability of course, Back seat room ample for adults, fold down those back seats and you can put almost anything back there. The shifter however is sloppy (I am used to my 79 Corona 5 speed which has the best shift feel I have ever experienced) and takes time to get used to. I like the tall seating position and the firm seats. The ride with the 17" low profile tires is of course harsh but that means it handles great in corners and powers through turns like a dream. The rev happy engine is noisy, but who cares, I bought the 6 speed to drive it and have fun, if I wanted quiet luxury I would have bought a Lexus. Overall a very fun drive that has the ability to transport 5 adults or all my stuff. I am sorry to see they will not offer it in a 2007 model....read morehide

- Great Fuel Economy, quiet and the 'B' package on the base model is a great value.
- storage bin under shifter doesn't stay closed, door lock remote does not work from far away.
Overall very satisfied with our 2004 Matrix. We felt that the B package available on the base model was a great value and gave us the added features that we wanted without having to buy a higher priced model.

- great on fuel and I am a big guy with a wife and kids, we have room, plenty of sto away area
- No antilock brakes, the sound system has a lot to be desired.
I got this car on a whim, and boy did it pay off. I average 35 miles to the gallon, and I get 40 on the highway. I drove to San Antonio from Fort Worth and back. For best ride, gas milage, and quietness, get Michelin MXV4 Plus tires. The factory continentals were good until first rotation. The combination of tires, and window tint make the car a complete package...read morehide

- Good fuel economy, more pep than other Matrix models, looks good with 17 inch wheels
- Premium gas only, long wide 6 speed shift pattern
Most reviewers berate the Matrix XRS because the power band
is kicks in about 6,000 rpm so it is usless in normal street driving.
However, once you get used to the quirks this little car is fun and
you can tune it to even out the power curve if you want to spend
some money to have a street sleeper....read morehide

- Extra power in the XRS, Overall value, Looks great with 17" alloy wheels, Utility and cargo space
- Sticky transmission, No leather option, No factory iPod hookup or satellite radio options
I decided to get the XRS two months ago because the regular XR model just didn't have enough get up and go. I hear a lot of people say it's not worth the extra $2k for the added horsepower but the XR model is just too sluggish and really no fun to drive (XRS gives it that all-important extra kick while fuel consumption remains relatively low).
Maybe it's because I came from owning VWs which have that extra umph, but I wasn't going to purchase the matrix when I test drove the XR and completely changed my mind after test driving the XRS. Regardless of the added price, the value is still unmatched and there is nothing else on the market that really compares to the XRS at it's price (size, utility, looks, fuel consumption, power, comfort, Toyota).
It's too bad Toyota discontinued the XRS - I guess I'll have to start saving for the new Mercedes B-Class hopefully arriving next year or the year after which looks identical to the Matrix but is assured to have an excellent ride and enough horsepower....read morehide

- Great gas millage, plenty of room, sporty, quick
- have had no problems with it at all.
I love this car! I have always driven big cars and this car has plenty of room for even very tall men or big teenagers. I love the fact that I can put in ski's, baseball equiptment, paintball gear and bags etc.
It has a great pick up! Excellent on gas, sporty looking.
Don't find it that noisy, takes corners like a champ and has a real punch on the highways. Beat out a mustang and a BMW! They wanted to race. Son thought that was cool for a 50 year old Mom kicking butt!
Anyway, mine is a 05, bought it brand new, I did put the window shields all the way around.
I would buy another !
Great car for the money!...read morehide

- roomy. great on gas, has lots of storage!
- a little noisy
We bought our '06 Matrix in dec. '05. I love it. I originally liked the car for the appearance (my girlfriend calls me Jane Jetson) but I love everything else about it!!! I haven't had any trouble with my car-and we even fit a full size screen door and armoire in it!!! The car also has 2 plugs in it that my daughter can use to plug in her dvd player on long trips. The a/c works great and so does the heat. I have nothing bad to say about this car. I have also gotten compliments on the color too-phantom grey pearl. again--I love it!!...read morehide
