Under the hood of the 2001 Prius is home to Toyota's Hybrid System that has a 1.5 liter 4 cycl gasoline engine that puts out 70hp, and is also used to charge the batteries in the rear of the car that power the AC Synchronous electric motor that has 44hp. That makes the Prius a Hybrid. This means the Prius can operate of the electric motor alone up to 32mph for at least 3 miles, or the electric motor can work with the gasoline engine depending on you driving conditions (the switch between power sources happens seamlesly.) The EPA estimates for the Prius is 55hwy/66cty. Lets talk real world, ever since i'v had the car, I have acheived 46hwy/54cty witch is still amazing. The performance is good, and ride is smooth. 0-60 is in 13 seconds, 0-100 is in...well it doesnt exactly go 100, the top speed is 88mph. The seats are very comfortable, and the back seat is quite roomy aswell. I find my car very reliable too, I once drove the car through water up to the bottom of the headlights, it held up well, and the doors well are sealed. I currently have 302,400 miles on the car, and the HV battery pack is still in good condition. I guess you can say this car has been through it all, water, its been beaten by tornado dabrye, but yet she is still running like new. If anyone is thinking about getting a Toyota Prius, DO IT. This has been the best car I have ever owned, and now that I ahve switched to Hybrid technology, I will never go back to a convetional vehicle again....read morehide
