I purchased my 2010 Prius II, used, in 12/2011, solely for gas mileage. I came from a high end (2nd one) Hyundai Santa Fe that I loved. Since then, I have driven my Prius daily. My commute is 88 miles round trip and I LOVE THIS CAR! It's well made, comfortable and well thought out inside. 5 people can fit without being too cramped. I can fit almost the same amount of stuff in it as my SUV because of the 60/40 split back, which folds easier than the Santa Fe. I even have a Prius Tent for camping! In my opinion, you get the gas mileage you ask for with it. if you want to learn how to be a gas sipper, it will teach you. I'm a lead footed, left lane driver, averaging 80mph in the left lane. I get 42 mpg now..even with my 'bad' driving habits! It was slapped hard in the face in 8/12 by a thrown highway truck tire tread... 6800.00 in damage but , never missed a beat engine-wise after it. It suffered a radiator replacement and some body damage. Not even a new sound! Very reliable. Test drive one.You won't be disappointed....read morehide

with 8000 miles the best mpg is only42.5 and worst is 38 when it was new the best was 48.5 and worst was 45 the computer tech at the dealer told me that is average for this car and there are no adjustments . so even if you watch your dash computer and drive it to get max mpg that is all you will get The MPG Rateing is not true...read morehide

Pros:
I have put less 1,000 miles and the car has been great so far. I'm getting about 46-47mpg traveling in endless mountain area of Pa. The seat are comfortable and roomy even for larger people. The information panel contains alot of information on the car which you can program. The radio sounds good and bluetooth connections work great with Apple products. The power of the engine is good and works good in the Eco mode. The power mode gives me plenty of power when pulling into traffic.
Cons: The ride can be a bit stiff. There also can be a braking skip or fade (about 1 sec) if you hit a good size bump when braking at the same time. The antilock brake comes on when this happens.
*** Update *** Review with 20,000 miles.
Here is what I notice since I have owned the car up to now:
MPG - Was getting higher MPG during the summer. I was getting an average of 51MPG for the first 15,000 miles. This was better then expected. Running the AC only lower the MPG by 1 or 2 miles per gallon. Now its the winter and using the heater in the car takes the MPG a lot lower. Now I'm around 45-46 MPG per tank fillup.
Front end of the car is very low and have to be carefull on the dips in the road. I have bottom the front out a few times by now.
Winter - You need to get snow tires on this car. The stock tires just spin in the snow and causes the traction control to engage and make things just worst. Snow tires I have no problem in a few inches but the car is light so don't drive too fast! I drive my Toyota Highlander if its going to be bad.
The Bad - Had to have both front wheel bearings replaced before 20K. I noticed road noise coming from the front passenger side. Hope the new bearings last for at least 100K...read morehide0 out of 0 people found this review helpful.

- Pros
- Seems like I never have to fill it up and huge about of free space inside.
- Cons
- Loud road noise, not responsive.

Absolutely love the car. Regularly get 54 mpg driving to work, never have to fill it up. And when I do a fill up only costs $25 or so (gas right now is 3.35). In contrast, my CRV costs over $40 to fill. So half the price to fill up and it goes twice as far. The other great thing about the car is that when you fold the seats down it is more or less flat and has a huge amount of room. I can keep my bicycle in the back along with a ton of other stuff. Nice creature comforts (love the blue tooth), and seats are very comfortable. Drives like a big American car, smooth and boring. I had no surprises with the car....read morehide

- Cons

There are too many Hybrids out there now for anyone to still "hate" Prius owners. Just as ugly as any car out there; I'm not impressed with any car's looks. It fun cus it's different to operate. It's a good car, period.

- Pros
- Easy to drive. Great mileage. Easy to get to know how to operate.
- Cons
- Slower starts but has power button

My new 2012 feels heavier than my other 2006 Prius. Road feel is almost non existent but I don't mind this; after all it's not a sports car. All dials and controls are in easy reach, light colored upholstery is perfect in FL. Hope mileage and longevity in my 2012 are equal to my 2006 (42 mpg), which had no problems other than 2 minor recalls, which were handled quickly and efficiently by dealership. So far, so good....read morehide

- Pros
- Best hybrid, best car by far!!!
- Cons
- Lack of power, but not a big deal to most people.

Bought mine new on March 2012. Have driven 6500 miles in 3 and 1/2 months, achieving 52mpg!!! Roomier than it looks and hatchback is very useful for storage. Great for long family trips. Trick to get better mpg is to involve the battery power as much as possible. Trigger EV mode (accelerate a bit then release) whenever you can especially driving 20 to 40 mph.
I downsized from a van to this. Compared to 20mpg previously, Prius will save me $2400/yr with 20k mile per year. Four year will be my breakeven point. Leaf lacks a long range of distance - impractical. Volt has better technology but $15 more in price makes it too expensive. All in all Prius is the king of hill!...read morehide14 out of 15 people found this review helpful.

So far its great, Toyota quality gives me peace of mind any way then throw in great gas milage and all I can say is WoW! Of course being in Law Enforcement and weight lifting it is hard to look cool in this vehicle, so always wear shades.

I was trying to decide between the prius and the highlander at the end of 2010. Boy am I glad I choose the prius with the way gas prices have gone up in the last several years.
