2005 Toyota RAV4 User Reviews
4-Door 4X4 shown
- $7,223 - $8,080
- Drives like a sports car, room, versitile, fun, economical, safe, and excellent brakes.
- none, very happy/satisifed.
Love driving my 05 RAV, and have absolutely no complaints. My other two vehicles are a Mercedes Benz E coupe, and a 91 SR5 Pick up. Have had a Porsche 911, late model Corvette, and this RAV satisfies me very well. Didn't want a big SUV, but like the versitle interior on the RAV. Great city vehicle size. Takes 4 adults with ease. Averaging easily 21 in town, and around 30 on the highway. Feels very safe with all the electronics to keep the vehicle on the road. Much more than just satisfied, love it....read morehide

- Good gas mileage, small, agile, good looking, comfortable, dependable
My Rav 4 is totally great. I live on Oahu, Hawaii where people do a lot of looking for a parking spot. Fortunatey my Rav fits almost anywhere and is very easy to drive in town and traffic. I really like the ride and the interior is very comfortable. I love the way the back seats fold up to handle cargo plus you can totally remove them if you desire. I once hauled all supplies needed to tile my entire kitchen and living room with ease. I really like the fact that the Rav is still an SUV but gets good mileage. Not as good as I would like but really great for an SUV. Of course I'd like 60 mpg but that's not going to happen in an SUV, at least not in this day and age. The engine has plenty of power to get the job done and is relatively quiet. My Rav also carries my 10' kayak on top with no problems as well as plenty of room for boogies boards and snorkeling gear. If you've just had it with the mileage of your gas-guzzlin, fullsize SUV but still want an SUV then the Rav4 is the right choice. I seriously have had my mine for over a year and I haven't had a bit of trouble. Priced right and out of sight. Get one!!...read morehide

- Nearly 30 MPG on long trips with car FULLY loaded, good pickup for 4 cyl with manual transmission!
- Highway noise distracting, need more trunk attachments, flimsy roof--overall, no major complaints!
I have owned my 2005 RAV since October 2004 and already have 13300 miles on it-- this car is fun to drive, can fit LOADS of stuff, and looks great too!! Standard features useful without having to spend excessive $$.
Previously owned a Corolla, so went back to Toyota for reliability and quality. Service has also been excellent-- no major issues other than regular maintenance and nail in tire that tire pressure sensors detected right away!
Engine/road noise at highway speeds (65-70 MPH) is a bit distracting initially, but with music on, you don't really notice ;-) Bucket seats could be a bit softer, but overall not uncomfortable during 8+ hour drives.
Comment above re: roof and trunk attachments-- for larger items that may stick out the back, few holes/hooks available to keep door closed; also cargo sitting on roof will bow into vehicle, but dent pops back out easily once cargo removed....read morehide

- Good ergonomics, Good handling, Fun to drive
- Lower than advertised city MPG
My last car was a '92 Saturn SL1, which had almost 270K on it when I bought this car. Based on my first 3 months with this car, I can see driving this car for a long time. Acceleration and braking are both better than I expected, steering is nimble and responsive, it has great visibility, and its comfortable to drive for long periods of time.
Also, having limited use of one side of my body, I find that its very easy to get in and out of, and I can reach everything with one hand (very rare for a car). This car is perfect for hauling my dive gear. The only downside so far is atrocious city milage (about 18-19MPG)....read morehide

- Style, good gas miliage, handleing
- Should have an optional 6-cyclinder and sport seats will top this out
Fun to drive, solid, responsive, and for an SUV has excellent fuel economy. I've own my RAV4 for almost a month now and have racked up over 2200 miles already. I took it on a quick trip, approx 1000 miles round trip and was surprised how easy this SUV drives. It never bogged down on the highways. It nibblness in heavy traffic makes this fun to drive. I have the L package with moonroof, leather wrapped steering wheel, and gear shift, extended fender flares, and rear spoiler. I can't believe how much this RAV4 changed since its introduction. Definately not the same car. If you are looking for a small SUV, then you better check out a RAV4 before you make your final decission. You won't be disappointed. I'm not! :)...read morehide

- right for two diaper gae kids, fuel economy, peppy for a small engine
- leg room, rear door, rear seat belts would help
Over all a very attracticve vehicle. responds well, cant tell at hi speed yet; trip to Rushmore will tell soon. The right is little too soft but nothing seriously soft o road feel. Havent done 5000 miles yet but the gas economy exceeds posted mileage so it appears.

- Good fuel, great look
- it is a bit noisy: nothing major
I test drove this SUV. I liked it, but the dealerships try to sell it for more than it's worth. If the vehicle was worth 25,000, I would pay for it.(The only thing I wanted extra was a sunroof) Unfortunately, it isn't worth that much, so on goes my search for a RAV4 that is a reasonable price....read morehide

- Manual is really fun to drive! It's roomy & great on gas for it's size. Reliable Toyota!!
- Back door, seat comfort, curtain air bags not standard.
I call mine my Golden Snitch as it's Zippy like the Harry Potter ball is. This car has super 'get up & go' for what it is (which surprised the heck out of me during test drive) making it very fun to drive! I took the back seats out making a big space for my three big dogs, so this feature is very handy. When I need the seats I just click them back in, no problem. I traded down from my beloved Tundra due to ridiculous CA gas prices. The Rav4 does saves money at the pump comparing. I wish the back door went up rather then to the side! In a high wind area it's VERY dangerous!!! The seat tends to make your backside square on longer car trips, but I might just be used to the plush comfort of my old Tundra. Side curtain air bags need to be standard! I think it should have a few more extras for the price. Heck the door hinges don't even have the rubber covers other Toyota models have, but over all its a very nice ride. I still miss my Tundra!!!!!...read morehide

- Easy to get into and out of. Great exterior looks. Great fuel economy. Quiet ride. No blind spots.
- Needs 3-4 more inches for the second row (passengers). Seats could be softer.
I researched suv's for about 6 months before I settled on the RAV4...
Of course, Toyota was the pivoting factor. I have owned Toyotas since 1987 and have been very impressed with them.
This RAV4 answered all the needs I had.
It's easy to park, turn corners, and takes up much less space in my garage.
It has fantastic pick up, it moves faster and tighter than my Camry.
The best feature was not having to sit down into a car. I have lower back problems and getting into and out of my Camry was so hard for me. I find this vehicle easy to get in and out of with no effort. I am 5'10" and need all the leg and head room it offers. I sit up high and the 360 degree view is awesome, no blind spots. I love the white pearl color, and the L package is a must. I feel so classy with the hard rear tire cover. I added the mud flaps and bug shield and keyless entry. It is so hot looking...I feel everyone should be taking a double look this great suv.I play golf a lot and the rear door opening sideways is awesome...no effort opening it and it closes without such force as the trunk of a car would....read morehide
