- Outstanding performance, good FE, Plenty of room throughout
- Quirky transmission, sound quality of radio, rear lighting
Have owned 9 Toyotas since '78, most recently a '99 Camry. Every one was dependable with few problems. Loved them all, but this one is the best! Excellent performance on the hiway and around town, gets ave. 26 MPG. In 5 months have put on over 14000 mi. It's much more roomy and comfortable than my wife's '01 RAV, and the V6 is the only way to go - can't wait to try the 4WD in the snow!
At low speed, the transmission sometimes can't make up its mind which gear to go to, but responds smoothly on rapid acceleration. Not happy with the sound quality of the radio - can't adjust / eliminate all of the annoying background base tone (dealer says "that is the way they are now making them"). The RAV could use some lighting in the rear storage area. Also agree with another reviewer that adjustable headrests would be better than the built-in ones that come with the base model.
While pricey, the vehicle is worth every cent. I haven't enjoyed driving as much since my first 4-speed stick Corolla. I love it!!
