2006 Toyota RAV4

- 270hp, lots of room, nimble, safe
- a bit noisy, no way to turn on the back seat dome light from driver seat
When I'm a dad, I like the airbags and the responsive brakes. But when mom and baby are at home, I can drive around town like a complete idiot. Here's a thought I didn't expect to have while looking in the rearview of a cute ute: "wow, the other cars get small so fast!"

- Great acceleration, great redesign, nice ride for a short wheelbase SUV
- Interior a bit stiff (like a Honda), lower than expected MPG, HVAC controls a bit confusing
Overall, I'm satisfied with my purchase. I use this vehicle for work and drive around 1,000 miles/week.
I get about 4-6 MPG less than advertised on the highway, but I do drive between 75-80 MPH to be fair. I'm sure if I drove 55 MPH everywhere, I wouldn't be too far off the 29 MPG mark, but I would be constantly passed and run over by everyone else on the road... It still is a great improvement over my former truck (2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Hemi), which only averaged 16 MPG at best!
The engine creates a nice amount of torque and produces above average HP for a V6. This was one of the reasons I bought it. It accelerates from 0-70 like my Hemi did. No complaints in power!
I like the handling and feel of the vehicle too. Torque-steer takes a little getting used to, and the accelerator is a bit touchy at low speeds, but I've gotten used to it after a while.
The fit and finish of the vehicle is great - I've always been a fan of Toyotas.
The new body style is so much more attractive than the older styles.
I do like the 10 cup holders. You never can have enough!
However, I do have some complaints:
-The HVAC controls are still confusing to me, even after 4 months of ownership
-The steering wheel is a bit small, and doesn't telescope out to a comfortable driving position
-The road noise is quite loud on some surfaces, except on very smooth asphalt. I'm sure the tires have a big part to play in this. It came with a set of Bridgestone Geolanders, which I'm sure aren't the quitest tires available. I'll post a follow-up when I purchase a new set of different tires in the next few months.
-The seats are a bit hard, kind of like the Honda CRV, which I used to own (2001 model). With prior ownership of the brand, I expected Toyota to have more comfortable seats.
- I wish it had dual power ports in the dash, except for the one. There is one in the center console, along with an auxilliary audio jack, but I wish both were in the dash.
-The gauges are a bit hard to read in the daylight sometimes, due to glare, even with the backlighting....read morehide

- performance, handling, visability, gas mileage
- noise and stiff ride
Sports car performance with cargo and passenger capability. High enough for back roads and rough terrain. Perfect compromise between car and truck.

- Completely Satisfied with my RAV!
Extremely impressed with the quality and workmanship of the Toyota RAV4. The interior is very comfortable and roomy...great for long trips. The V-6 engine is very smooth and has incredible power which makes driving the RAV a lot of fun. I have been pleased with the gas mileage I have been getting both in the city and on freeway. I definitely would recommend the RAV4 to anyone looking for a SUV in this category....read morehide

- Great acceleration, Good gas mileage, Plenty of room
- Long wait if you want the V6
We bought this vehicle to replace our Suburban, so right away we got a break on fuel cost. The ride has been better than I expected and since we did not get the 3rd row seat there is plenty of storage in the back. I highly recommend the V6, it has plenty of power and the fuel economy is great. We had to order the vehicle we wanted and it seemed like it took forever but the dealer warned us of the wait when we placed the order. If you are in the market you should check out the RAV4....read morehide

- Ride is awesome. V6 kicks into gear and leaves everyone in the dust. Very comfortable and spacious
- No complaints, just that it took so long to get the V6, but it was worth the wait.
Although it took so long to get the V6, not to mention, I wanted leather and that would have taken another decade, so I settled for the cloath. This suv is awesome, it has power you would not believe. People are always taking a double look to see what it is. Looking forward to years and years of driving....read morehide
