- Fun to drive, good fuel efficiency, love the storage options in the dash and the back
- Features absent, not great in snow, weak acceleration after 30 mph, hatch won't open from inside
More on the pros: I have a blast driving this car, it accelerates nicely off the line at stoplights and it handles nicely while weaving through traffic.
My MPG fluctuates based on whether I use the heat or AC, but the worst my car does is about 30. I typically pull down a solid 300 miles per tank of gas.
I've questioned the cup holder placements too, but I use the drivers' side every day - and the heater doesn't melt the ice in my soda. The triple glove boxes are fantastic - I have easy access to my gloves and my sunglasses. And the trunk space is great, the list of things I've fit in there is stunning. This car helped me move!
More on the cons: I couldn't get any features when I bought the car in July '07, and dealers tell me Toyota isn't building the Yaris with what they put on the web site for my area. I had to kiss goodbye my dreams of keyless entry, power anything, fancy blue ambient lighting, 60/40 fold-down seats, fancy rims - among many other 'options.' Sure, I didn't want a $20,000 hatchback, but that cool blue glow looks real neat.
Compared to my Yaris, my old '97 Sentra was a snowmobile. Hills and line starts in the snow are a mess, and I lose traction easily anywhere else. My car is not fun to drive in the snow - at all.
Maybe it's just me, but I'd like better acceleration after 30 mph. I beat everyone off the line at the light, but they pass me 200 feet later. That's no fun.
And what gives with no hatch release? I can't count how many times I've muttered profanities when I realized I had to turn off the car and exit the vehicle so I could access the trunk.
