This little shit box is funny to drive but it does get about 35mpg. I wish I would have bought an american made car, I feel terrible this car is built in Japan. My next one will be a Chevy or Ford I promise.

I will never ever buy a TOYOTA again. TOYOTA will not stand behind of their cars. I live in Turkey, it is now only 20000 miles. Had transmission problem, I had to change and pay for it. It has many other problems as well. I WİLL NEVER BUY TOYOTA again.

Replying to the previous poster, it is indeed true that Toyota Yaris (hatchback only) is a Daihatsu-made/engineered car. Toyota has always kept this as a secret since the beginning, since Toyota does not want the public to know that "Daihatsu" car manufacturer itself still exists in North America today. Toyota wants the public to continue knowing that Daihatsu exited auto sales from North America in 1992. Daihatsu is a half-owned subsidiary by Toyota (51% owned by Toyota), which Toyota invest in Daihatsu only for the auto factory plants to expand production for Toyota-branded vehicles. Daihatsu, itself, is actually a private Japanese car manufacturer producing its own set of cars, mostly mini-kei cars for the Japanese market. If Toyota did market the Yaris hatchback under the "Daihatsu" brand, it will have much difficulty selling, due to lack of public awareness of the "Daihatsu" brand, and sales number would be poor. The public have already agreed that Daihatsu cars were discontinued after 1992, so there is no need for Toyota to bring back the Daihatsu name and confuse the auto market. Because Daihatsu is 51% owned by Toyota (more than half or 50%), Toyota has the right to market the Yaris model under the Toyota brand without any penalty, and Toyota is not required to inform the public that the Yaris hatchback is made by Daihatsu.
Only the Toyota Yaris hatchback (or liftback) is made by Daihatsu. The four-door Yaris sedan is made and engineered by Toyota, and the Yaris four-door sedan is the only subcompact car manufactured by Toyota. Only the Yaris sedan is an actual Toyota product as well as Toyota's own least-expensive car. The Yaris sedan is now discontinued and only sold to fleets, and all Yaris cars, beginning in 2012 model year, are made by Daihatsu.
Although Toyota use Daihatsu's own auto plants as a source of slightly cheaper Japanese labor, Daihatsu, surprisingly, build more reliable cars than Toyota in Japan, due to more simplicity, fewer parts, and lighter-weight in every cars Daihatsu built. Toyota Yaris hatchback (made by Daihatsu) has always been rated more reliable than Toyota Yaris sedan (made by Toyota), according to Consumer Reports magazine in the auto reliability history section. Just because Daihatsu cars are cheaper than Toyota cars along with cheaper labor doesn't necessary mean Daihatsu cars are going to be less reliable. It can be the opposite sometimes, which happened many times in the past.

Great little car for the money. Great fuel mileage, but would purchase a diesel in a heart beat if they became available in the US.

- could use a little more acceleration

I really do like this car, I bought it used and it is a genuine small car, not fast but kind of "zippy", it is pretty nimble and the brakes are good for a front disk, rear drum assembly.
The Yaris I bought is a 2008 Pacific Blue Sedan AT. This is the first automatic transmission car I've ever owned and it is kind of cool, I usually shift it kind of manually to get a little more performance, it seems to work well.
Honestly, my last car, which will go unnamed was about the same wheelbase but 1000 lbs heavier and it felt like it. This is a really cool, genuine small car. This car, even the oil change intervals are 5,000 miles apart.
My car has the instrument package and 15" wheels so it is kind of a fancy Yaris, I guess. The car is an overall pleasure to drive and it looks kind of cool as well....read morehide0 out of 0 people found this review helpful.

I bought an 07 yaris new from a lot, we loved it and still do! but if your looking to do high miles on this car i would reconsider.
I drive 25k a year due to my job, never missed a schedule maintenance. but over time certain things started to go. first the alternator and battery, the the drive belt... twice, then the water pump started to leak, then the window power switch stoped working, Etc... if you have a big family or travel a lot. think twice. but overall i really do like the car, just hate having to go to the service department3 times a year....read morehide0 out of 0 people found this review helpful.

- Pros
- other than fuel economy, there is nothing to attract
- Cons
- Lethargic automatic transmission
Purchased As New
most of the reviews are not talking about the environment around. maybe the Yaris is great for Europe, but in Dubai! OMG this car is a killer. what i am talking about is the automatic transmission very very slow and it takes ages to shift the gear. considering driving in a city full of giant 4WD cars and unbelievable traffic, i feel not safe at all. the only reason why i keep driving it, is that i can't afford to buy a better one, and it is very efficient in fuel consumption....read morehide
