Out standing performance. Very quick zero to 30. Does well at freeway speeds, changing lanes and keeping up with traffic. Have driven Prius for five + years & tempted to lease a Yaris just for the fun of it. Our other car is a Toyota SUV Lexis 330.

Great car, great interior, very reliable and fun to drive.
I bought a 2007, have 130,000 miles and spent about 1400 on service so far. Car gets 39 mpg on freeway everytime.
Great A/C, great radio. I was going to buy a new one. Until I noticed the trunk is gone. What happened to the trunk. Trust me nobody wants to sit in the back seat with a suburban tailgating on the freeway. NO Trunk= No Yaris....read morehide0 out of 0 people found this review helpful.

My Yaris is actually a 2010, but thought I would write and say how good it has been since I bought it Oct. 23, 2009. I have averaged about 37.5 mpg in the city. I rarely travel any long distance and most driving is within 20 miles of my home. It has fit right in with my daily needs and I love it. I hope it last for the rest of my life!...read morehide

I was in the market for another vehicle last year when my Blazer was putting me in the poorhouse at the gas pump. I knew I wanted something with good gas mileage that was dependable. When the dealer suggested a Yaris, I was skeptical. But after my test drive, I was sold. After my first fill-up, I loved it. My little hatchback has a lot more room than people expect. It handles well and man, can that thing move! I was honestly shocked by that. In a year, I've had no problems with it. All it really needs is gas and oil changes. Plus, it's *super* cute!...read morehide

- Super reliable, Great Gas mileage.

I purchased a new Yaris in 2005 and drove 160K 'trouble free' miles, I expect the 2012 too be driven longer. This car is a gem that out shines the rest. I dont think that anyone could ask for a better car. The Yaris is super reliable, gets great gas mileage and handles well on any road.

- Pros
- Made by Daihatsu in Japan with better reliability repair record than Toyota in Japan...
- Cons
- None, although Toyota of Japan use Daihatsu of Japan as a source for cheaper Japanese labor...

Replying to the previous angry poster, it is indeed true that Toyota Yaris (hatchback only) is a Daihatsu-made/engineered car. Toyota has always kept this as a secret since the beginning, since Toyota does not want the public to know that "Daihatsu" car manufacturer itself still exists in North America today. Toyota wants the public to continue knowing that Daihatsu exited auto sales from North America in 1992.
Daihatsu is a half-owned subsidiary by Toyota (51% owned by Toyota), which Toyota invest in Daihatsu only for the auto factory plants to expand production for Toyota-branded vehicles. Daihatsu, itself, is actually a private Japanese car manufacturer producing its own set of cars, mostly mini-kei cars, for the Japanese market. If Toyota did market the Yaris under the "Daihatsu" brand, it will have much difficulty selling, due to lack of public awareness, and sales number would be poor. People have already agreed that Daihatsu cars were discontinued in North America after 1992, so there is no need for Toyota to bring back the Daihatsu name and confuse the auto market. Because Daihatsu is 51% owned by Toyota (more than half or 50%), Toyota has the right to market the Yaris model under the Toyota brand without any penalty, and Toyota is not required to inform the public that the Yaris is made by Daihatsu.
Only the four-door Yaris sedan is made and engineered by Toyota, and the Yaris four-door sedan is the only subcompact car manufactured by Toyota, as well as Toyota's own least-expensive car. The Yaris sedan is now discontinued and sold only to fleets, and all Yaris cars, beginning in 2012 model year, are made by Daihatsu.
Although Toyota use Daihatsu's own auto plants as a source of slightly cheaper Japanese labor, Daihatsu, surprisingly, build more reliable cars than Toyota in Japan, due to more simplicity, fewer parts, and lighter-weight in every cars Daihatsu built. Toyota Yaris hatchback (made by Daihatsu) has always been rated more reliable than Toyota Yaris sedan (made by Toyota), according to Consumer Reports magazine in the auto reliability history section. Just because Daihatsu cars are cheaper than Toyota cars along with cheaper labor doesn't necessary mean Daihatsu cars are going to be less reliable. It can be the opposite sometimes, which happened many times in the past.

- Pros
- Great gas mileage, excellent ride and handling, convenient layout
- Cons
- Maybe slightly too narrow

I have a 2005 Scion kA and a 2007 Scion xD. Both are OK but not too exciting.
This newly re-designed 2012 model is a completely different animal - ride is much better, no funky instrument cluster at the center of the dash, it has all functions of my 4Runner - gas range, MPG, etc. that I find very helpful.
I drove a Fit extensively, and was disappointed with harsh ride and miserable gas mileage (33-34 highway). This Yaris is way better no matter how you look at it. Not to mention cheaper - I paid $16,500 for the top-of-the line 5 dr SE modification.
ABS and traction control are more or less standard on newer cars but all four disc brakes (SE only) is nice.
Oh, did I mention it's made in Japan?...read morehide0 out of 0 people found this review helpful.

I purchased this vehicle purely based upon the brand's reputation. I did insist that the model I wanted had to have the standard 5 speed manual trans. Reliability is OUTSTANDING. The front seats and the instruments (in the center of the dash) were different. At first it was diffici;t looking at the spedo and other instruments in the center of the dash. But it was only a week into owning this vehicle I automatically looked atthe speedo, tach, and other items in the center. The dealer service couldn't be better. I have driven manual trans. cars before, so the shifting is second nature to me. I have learned to manage the gears and I consistantly get 40 to 41 mpy in the Washington, D.C. suburb traffic....read morehide
