Toyota Not Quality and Resale Value Anymore

by Burkey from Syracuse NY (7/17/08)
Pros:Nice riding car -

I purchased the 4Runner because my job dictates I drive over 40K miles per year. I changed the oil every 5,000 miles which is what I was told to do and spent over $1,500 on to have all the fluids changed. Three weeks ago my 4wd low light came on and locked me into 4wd and couldn't get it to turn off. The dealership changed almost every part associated with it while talking to Toyota Japan and can't figure out the problem. They are very good about telling me how certified they are with Toyota and how they are the best. Going on three weeks and they can't figure out what the problem is. Pretty soon after changing out all the parts I'm probably going to have a new car! The bill so far is over $2,200 and they can't figure out what's wrong. I asked for all the parts they are replacing because I'm sure they aren't bad like they are telling me so I can take the parts to an independent lab. In the dealership's defense they gave me a loaner after 3 day's so I could get rid of the rental I was paying for. They offered me $7,500 for it which is also dissapointing. I paid $33,000 for it 3-1/2 years ago and purchased it for it's quality and resale value. I called Toyota's customer satisfaction center and they referred me back to the dealership (what a joke). I have a Tundra limited that I paid $42,000 and it's KBB is $28,000 in 12 months. I'm looking for a new quality auto.

Built to Last

by Tincanpuller from Everett, WA (7/01/08)
Pros:Tows like a Pro, Plenty of power, Real 4X4 but not a Tank.
Cons:Need 2 of them because my wife drives it all the time.

We wanted to tow a small travel trailer. With the V8 this 4Runner can pull 7000 lbs. No problem. Definitely overkill but then again, I won't have to sweat climbing any mountain passes or picking up highway speeds merging onto the interstate.

We also needed room for occasional extra passengers when family visits (AKA Grand kids). Looked at Crewcab Trucks but you either end up with something way too long or sacrifice with a half size bed that can't haul much at all. If I need to haul anything of size, I have a utility trailer that the 4Runner pulls just fine.

It replaced a 4-door sedan and a full sized pick-up.

Sure it's not fuel friendly. But it does what we got it for and does it in style.

Fit and finish are first rate. We've only had it a month and Toyota has sent 3 different surveys seeking our opinion on every aspect of the buying experience and product quality. No squawks here.

I love my new 4Runner Sport!!!

by yellowbird84 from FL (6/29/08)
Pros:Traditional Toyota quality and reliability combined with safety in a gorgeous package!
Cons:Although mileage isn't bad for an SUV, gas prices make it expensive to drive....but worth it for me.

I've always bought Toyota vehicles and I've never been disappointed. My needs have changed so I now need a larger vehicle to drive around three growing boys and sometimes camping gear. Although gas prices are crazy, I feel the need for space and safety were more important choices for me. And by the way, I kept my 1995 Toyota Corolla for my son who will be driving in a year...and for me to drive occasionally too...it gets great milage and has been a fantastic car!!

Terrific vehicle!

by Christy from Austin, Texas (6/24/08)
Pros:During the winter (no AC) I average 22-24 mgp overall. During the summer in Texas I avg 20.5-21 mpg
Cons:The vehicle is light so it gets pushed around easily in high wind.

The miles per gallon are much higher than what it is rated for. I suspect this is because it's not a heavy vehicle that does get pushed around a bit in high wind. I am in a relatively flat area for the MPG I have listed. When I am in a hilly area the mileage goes down but that is the same with any vehicle. This gets better mileage than most sedans. It's a dream to merge in traffic and handles wonderfully. I would not hestitate to buy another one when the time comes. I am praying Toyota creates a 4Runner hybrid.

nice truck, gas is a killer

by Mike (5/24/08)
Pros:Looks, nothing has broken down, back window goes down
Cons:GAS mpg 14.1, Radio, tires

I have a 2004 v-8 sr-5, ( there are no more v-8s no more) and trust me you woudnt want one!!!.This is a nice suv, but just to pricey for me with the v8 and moonroof, the biege cloth inside is sooooo dirty and it shows, i will NEVER get light cloth in next car.The radio is not loud enough for my taste, you have to turn it up way past half and fade it to the front!. The dealership has no contact with me at all, and the main light came on and there is nothing wrong with truck. ill be trading this truck in next year for a car.

AWESOME!!!

by D Wright from Roscoe, IL (5/23/08)
Pros:Solid ride, great fit and finish, love the touch screen navigation
Cons:Wish factory remote start was avail and/ or smartkey.

Having owned several Jeeps in the past, I can't complain about the fuel economy of my 4Runner. Mine is an 07 with approx. 21000 miles on it and I'm getting just under 19 MPG on the highway. I'm told my vehicle is still breaking in and my mileage should get even better. I love the solid, safe feeling ride of this vehicle. I love the big touch screen navigation; and rear backup camera is great for making sure little one's and bikes are clear when backing up. The styling, in my opinion, is fantastic and I get looks and compliments all the time on this vehicle. Best purchase I've ever made!

2005 4 Runner is wonderful!!

by Don from Seattle, wa (5/23/08)
Pros:Solid - no "Detroit" squeeks, smooth, comfortable
Cons:mpg but I didn't buy a hybrid either!

My third 4 runner. I still have my first, a 1991, still the best design ever in an suv.had the engine totally rebuilt at 210,000 (although it could have run for many thousands of miles more). My second was a 2003 4 runner six banger - not enough power, traded it for my current, it is a 2005 ltd. V8 -plenty of power, comfort. Buy the extended warranty though, as small parts are expensive.

Love my 4-runner

by amy from Mt Sterling, Ky (5/08/08)
Pros:Comfort, easy handleing, love the looks
Cons:If it got a little better gas milage there would be no flaws!

My 4-runner is a 1999, I have about 170 miles on it and I still love it! I still get compliments on it and it still runs as good as ever! The ONLY thing that would keep me from getting another one when this one no longer runs would be the gas milage. I really dont want anything else!

I looooove this vehicle, get compliments all the time and it's great for riding in the mountains or hurrying to a meeting downtown. Smooth start and the gas lasts me a week on a fill up.

A TRUE mid-sized SUV

by Mark from Valparaiso, IN (5/06/08)
Pros:Stout truck-based true SUV, good utility, responsive handling and braking
Cons:Rear seats not comfortable for long rides, rear seat console too low

If you want a true mid-sized SUV, then there is no other than the 4Runner. I have an 08 that already has 15k miles on it, is my daily driver and has been through one of the roughest and coldest winters in recent history. It drives so easy in 4WD in the snow and patchy ice on the road. Overall gas economy is decent for a vehicle of this type, at 21 mpg. This will truly go where other SUV's will wish they could go. The only trick I had to learn was the 4 wheel disc brakes and to learn to brake with finesse. Otherwise, they will grab hard and surprise you.

Now that it is warm outside, I can drive with the moonroof retracted, all four windows rolled down and even the hatch window rolled down...really exhiliarating and fresh for a change.
