Solara Delivers Top Down Fun With Style

by Joe from Harrisburg, PA (5/13/08)
Pros:Great Looking, Reliable, Smooth,
Cons:Gas Mileage, Blind Spot

I have always wanted a Solara Convertible and decided to take the plunge in Feb. What a great car! Smooth operation, nice base stereo, easy to operate top. The car is a head turner too. For the money, you cannot beat the style, reliability and powertrain for this convertible. The gas mileage could be a little better and, like most convertibles, it has a blind spot or two. But overall, this is a great car.

Great car Great price!

by J. A. from Havertown PA (5/04/08)
Pros:Fuel economy is fine except for the high gas prices. has a smooth ride.
Cons:I wish the back window was a bit bigger. there is somewhat of a blindspot.

I purchased the 2008, convertible SE, in early February, 2008, and I absolutely LOVE IT. the car runs smooth and heavy like a bigger car. It hugs the road. the seats are very comfortable too. controls are easy to operate. Ive had many compliments on this car. it looks and drives like a champ. If your looking for a sporty convertible thats reasonably priced, with a classy looking style, then I highly recommend this car.

This car is an affordable luxury one.You can easily compare it with the much much more expensive cars in the market. You would be fascinated by it's smooth and non shaky ride.Excellent car in the class.

Sleek and smooth

by JJ from Delaware County, PA (2/10/08)
Pros:Beautiful car. It turns heads when I drive it. Smooth ride like a luxury car.
Cons:hard to see out of the back window due to the high headrests. Wish I could remove them.

other than the back window being hard to see out of because its small and the headrests are in the way, the car is a pleasure to drive and very comfortable. I just purchased the 08 convertible SE and I got a great deal on it. I heard rumors that 08 may be the last year these are being made? Seems like every time I buy a new car they stop making it a yea later. go figure.

2008 Solara Sport Convertible

by Steve from Rockville, MD (1/30/08)
Pros:Overall ride, Back seat room, Exterior / interior stlying
Cons:Nothing major, needs iluminated controls for top, rearview mirrors, MPG could be better

Nice car over-all. Interior lay-out is well done, Base sound system is nice. Top goes up/down quickly and quietly. Trunk is spacious for a convertible. There is blind spot in the back, but every convertible I test drove (over 8 different vehicles) had one... If you want a convertible, you have to expect that.

Comfortable to drive in the winter (10 degrees outside and nice and toasty inside.) Plenty of leg room, front and back (I am 6'3" and I fit in the driver's seat AND behind the driver's seat... And I am not talking just getting in.. I could sit back there for an hour or two with really no discomfort at all.)

MPG is "OK." I have had the car for about 1 month and found that I get about 19-20 MPG in "city" driving and about 24 with a combination of highway/city driving. If the on-board computer is correct (seems a tad optimistic) I may be getting about 27 - 28 MPG with all highway driving - Not too shabby for a car that can fit 4 adults comfortably with luggage.

If I have one thing I could change, it would be the handling. I like a car with a tighter feel of the road. The Sport version of the Solara provides more than the SLE model, but still lacks (I enjoyed test driving the Mini-Cooper as a point of comparison... You move the wheel an inch, the car responds...) The Solara has a little bit of "sloppiness" in the steering versus the Mini.

Overall, a keeper. I have friends that have had Solara's for years. Toyota's reputation for reliability seems to be well-founded. If you decide on this car, you will not be disappointed.

Smooth and Silky ride.

by Robert from Harrington Park, NJ (1/13/08)
Pros:Smooth ride, silky. Comfortable rear seating. Styling. Decent trunk space.
Cons:Bluetooth Phone and GPS have system freeze ups. Rear viewing.

I love this car. Smooth and silky ride. Easy retraction of convertible cover. Tech stuff is good. The bluetooth phone seems to freeze up and so does the GPS. Got a good deal from Carmax.

GREAT AND BEAUTIFUL CAR THAT TURNS HEADS! (HUMPS}

by CAROL CASS from Smithtown NY (12/14/07)
Pros:beautiful looking, great response, initially tight

Car is a beauty comparing it to the bmw, mercedes, soltice. It is a 4 seater.
Real problem is back seat headrests block the major rearview and sides of the back. This is a very dangerous problem and took a long time of driving to overcome the fear that comes along with getting used to these "humps".
Even tho the car has a rearview camera it is impossible to check all of these things when moving into another lane on the right and left. There seems to be a lot of blind spots in the car. Particularly when trying to cross a croweded intersection and movig into the right lane.GG
LOvercoming this major problem after a year of use, I found the car to have rapid response and power, after being initially "tight".
