Speaker of the jammu & Kashmir Assembly has issued a notice to former Army Chief Gen VK Singh over allegations of political pay offs. Gen VK Singh alleged that certain ministers in J&K were paid money by army for 'stability' and that this has been going on since Independence. VK Singh claimed such activities are carried out by the Army in many areas and are not limited to J&K. He, however, refused to name anyone. The former Army Chief later sought to do damage control by saying it was not a bribe but aimed at creating goodwill among people. Gen Singh's remarks came under attack from various quarters including Union Ministers, a former J&K CM and the Congress party. VK Singh was in the eye of the storm over reports that that attempts were made to topple the J&K government during his tenure as the Army Chief.
