- fuel economy, tight steering, great handling, gratifying manual transmission
- revs really high on highway (loud), hard to see radio controls when driving
This car is my first car and I love it. The cons: It took a while to get used to because the seats are hard and they hurt at first. The car is also light, and therefore in the snow, it may not be the best thing to drive (but it nevertheless is still fun). When driving, its difficult to locate the radio buttons, and often the headlights and brake lights burn out quickly (my first brake light went out about 2 minutes after I left the dealership, so I had to return for them to replace it). On the highway, it revs at around 4000 rpms when going 80 mph. So it's pretty loud, but just crank of the stereo and you won't even notice.
The pros: The heated seats warm up quickly and also heat your back. The steering is very responsive and the handling on the car is tight. Driving a manual transmission on this car brings a smile to face every time I change gears. I'm also getting excellent gas mileage (anywhere between 25-31 mpg), and surprisingly, there is plenty of room in the back "trunk" of this hatch. The monsoon sound system makes you feel like you're listening to the music live.
Overall, I highly recommend the VW Golf to anyone who wants an obedient, responsive car.
