- tons of torque; shifts like old mg
- tons of torque; shifts like truck; very dated drivetrain; weighs 400 lb more than it should
It's great to shoehorn the old standard 5cyl into an aged design; however, it comes at the cost of a truck-like shift and a decidedly 90s feel.
The weight issue - this thing weighs only 150 lbs less than a camry but is tight for anyone over 250 or 5'10. It's cetainly a far cry better than the original, underpowered rabbit, but it still feels like it's rooted somewhere in the late-80s early-90s big 4 cyl; we know it's a 5, but it sure feels like a big 5 - vibration and rumbling, along with a total lack of breathing capacity over 5500 rpm.
It is, however, an awesome commuter - the shift is positive, it has the torque to move along with traffic in 4th or 5th without having to search for a gear when there's a break in the flow. It also gives off an air or indestructibility - whether that's real or just perceived is somehting i'd rather not test; and, if used only as a solo commuter, it has a ton of space for big gulps and sides of beef on the way home
