- Very high quality, great roomy interior.
- A little slow pulling away from a full stop.
Purchased As New
I researched and shopped the Mazda 3 HB, Subaru Impreza, and Hyundai Elantra Touring. The Mazda is a great car, but pricey. The seats in the Subaru make you feel like your sitting on the floor. The Hyundai was nice but just didn't handle like the Golf. I bought the 6 speed Tiptronic automatic, as I often drive in stop and go traffic, and I'm 62. This car is put together wonderfully, handles like a go cart, and gives an excellent controlled ride for a short wheelbase auto. The interior is upscale, and has a lot of nice features which are extra cost on other vehicles. The only slight negative is it appears to be a little slow for a couple of seconds pulling away from a full stop until the engine revs pick up. I only have 800 miles on the car, so maybe this will improve as the engine breaks in. Second tank of gas was good for 28MPG which only included one 100 mile highway trip. I paid $18,330 before tax with a $750 rebate for having another VW in the same household. My stepson's GTI has 95K and no expensive repairs, just normal maintenance. From what I've read the 2011 Ford Fiesta from Europe is probably another great car to consider, but I am very happy with the Golf. The HB makes it easy to load/unload cargo, especially golf clubs. MY 2008 Highlander has now replaced my wife's Olds Intrigue. She didn't think she would like a small car, but she loves riding in the Golf. Also, the A/C system is great, and the standard radio/CD with the extra speakers works fine.
