I love the Golf, have had one since 2000. This one is even better. The cost of having the turbo will take quite a while to offset the increased milage but I have seriously had highway milage over 50 mpg with this car (6-speed manual).
I can see where VW has had to cut some corners to keep price in line but as a whole, the Golf is far superior to the equal priced Japanese models in trim and having a quality feel.
My complaints are that the navigation maps are sometimes inaccurate and there is poor effort to correct them from NavTeq who supplies the map data. The annual updates are nearly 200$! I can buy a new Garmin with free updates for life for that.
The other complaint that I have is regarding the seats. For the average 5' 10" person, these are fine but for anyone shorter than 5' 5" the bottom seat cushion is too long and causes pressure behind the knees. For short drives, this is tolerable but for anything over 1 hour, it becomes painful.
Still the VW is a wonderful car and you are part of a family once you own one. Recommended....read morehide
