- turbo, traction control, gas milage, very safe car
The 2005 gti is a very fun car to drive, i test drove a lot of cars before I went to the VW dealer and the 1.8T was one of the most fun cars to dirve. i ended up buying a gti the next day. i havent had any problems with it so far, its very comfortable for daily driving. the traction control is very nice to have so are the 17" wheels with all season tires that came stock on it. I've been driving this car for a few months/few thousand miles and so far i have nothing to camplain about. this car will keep pulling up to 130mph. then the speed governor kicks in. also i saw a review that said this car was on the heavy side, look up the curb weight on cars in the same class as the gti (such as RSX-S, Cobalt SS, SRT-4)and you will see they most are within 100lbs of each other according to Car and Drivers stats.
there are also "no" Coil Pack recalls on the 03-05 mkIV gti's, the recall was only for the 2001-2002 mkIV's, also the suspension is not "too" soft unless you are planning on taking it to a race track. ITs a very fun car...go test drive one and see....read morehide

- Plenty of creature comforts, awesome torque, fast and sharp handling.
- Disguises its capabilities a little to well.
The interior is luxurios, agility and acceleration are almostmotorcycle like (I drive a Ninja)!
The turbo has a great sound to go along with all the torque. Good finish quality in and out. The ESP is a must and the ABS are inobtrusive.
This car is very fast and stable at high speeds, it is indeed buil for the Autobahn.
As close to a BMW as you can get for under 20k!...read morehide

- not a light weight car
the car is about 3000 pounds -- this is as much as a Honda Accord
-- thus crash performance should be good
-- anyway -- this car is the most sold car in Europe
-- this allone says a lot

- very good torque, strong breaks, stability program, good front lights
- too soft suspension
The car got constant torque from just below 2000 RPM to 5000 RPM -- this makes for very good acceleration at lower RPM.
The torque at 1000 RPM is a bit low for my taste -- when starting from a stop one has to watch to avoid starting at too low RPM (this applies to manual transmission only). The car got a stability program which really helps driving fast turns on (wet) roads. The breaks and ABS are awesome -- the ABS only kicks in after the wheels actually start slipping. The suspension is a bit too soft on the front-wheels -- but what can you expect for bumpy US roads -- VW needs to provide a warranty. The car actually steps on the breaks when the front-wheels start to spin, thus providing better traction....read morehide
