The 2005 gti is a very fun car to drive, i test drove a lot of cars before I went to the VW dealer and the 1.8T was one of the most fun cars to dirve. i ended up buying a gti the next day. i havent had any problems with it so far, its very comfortable for daily driving. the traction control is very nice to have so are the 17" wheels with all season tires that came stock on it. I've been driving this car for a few months/few thousand miles and so far i have nothing to camplain about. this car will keep pulling up to 130mph. then the speed governor kicks in. also i saw a review that said this car was on the heavy side, look up the curb weight on cars in the same class as the gti (such as RSX-S, Cobalt SS, SRT-4)and you will see they most are within 100lbs of each other according to Car and Drivers stats.
there are also "no" Coil Pack recalls on the 03-05 mkIV gti's, the recall was only for the 2001-2002 mkIV's, also the suspension is not "too" soft unless you are planning on taking it to a race track. ITs a very fun car...go test drive one and see.
