- 8 speaker Monsoon system w/ amp, 6-CD changer opt., smooth ride, 16' alloy rims, excel. cargo space
- automatic trans. is rough on first gear, heavy doors for 2-dr type, 06 GTI newly remodeled
My girlfriend and I purchased the 2005 VW GTI a week ago and we love it. I took it on a 400 mi. road trip and the ride was excellent. Very smooth on the road and with the sound system on you become unaware of whats around. Our GTI came fully loaded with rims, sound system, sunroof, and alarm. Once you get familiar with car all the little details come to life. You'll see. The cargo space is excellent and the back seats fold down to give you a level space. This is handy for dog lovers like ourselves. The interior is comfortable even in the back seats. We owned a Honda Civic before the GTI and change was great....read morehide

- manual transmission is lacking
I like it! a little small but other wise nice. Not flashy but gets the job done. Not yet a bmw, but most definetly on the uprise to making its own name.

- Fit and finish, interior appointments, acceptable MPG
- Ride is a little too smooth, manual trans a tad sloppy.
My GTI has virtually every option, although I stayed with the 6 speed. There was a recoil for ignition coils, the window motor servo went out on the driver side, and the Monsoon tuner went on the fritz -- all covered under warranty. Beyond that, no problems at all. It's my second GTI, the other being an 01 1.8T. These are truly excellent, do anything machines. The interior appointments are as good as anything else out there, frankly. The mileage with the VR6 is okay as klong as you don't flog it too hard. The MPG situation actually improved significantly with the addition of a GIAC chip, K&N drop in air filter and a Supersprint cat-back exhaust. Put in a B&M short shift kit to tighten up the shifting. Yeah, I know -- most people my age haven;'t a clue what I just said,. Whatever. Still, I can't overstate the flexibility of this platform to perform any task. in a world of Honda -boy tuner cars, this vehicle certainly stands out. Down the road, I'd like to get a Golf V, if they ever bring the PD150 diesel to these shores....read morehide
