2005 Volkswagen GTI

- Fit and finish, interior appointments, acceptable MPG
- Ride is a little too smooth, manual trans a tad sloppy.
My GTI has virtually every option, although I stayed with the 6 speed. There was a recoil for ignition coils, the window motor servo went out on the driver side, and the Monsoon tuner went on the fritz -- all covered under warranty. Beyond that, no problems at all. It's my second GTI, the other being an 01 1.8T. These are truly excellent, do anything machines. The interior appointments are as good as anything else out there, frankly. The mileage with the VR6 is okay as klong as you don't flog it too hard. The MPG situation actually improved significantly with the addition of a GIAC chip, K&N drop in air filter and a Supersprint cat-back exhaust. Put in a B&M short shift kit to tighten up the shifting. Yeah, I know -- most people my age haven;'t a clue what I just said,. Whatever. Still, I can't overstate the flexibility of this platform to perform any task. in a world of Honda -boy tuner cars, this vehicle certainly stands out. Down the road, I'd like to get a Golf V, if they ever bring the PD150 diesel to these shores.
