- 2.0t and new 6 sp. are a killer drivetrain
Take it for a ride.Fast , nice exhaust note, handles great and plenty of interior room (I'm 6'4") If you forgo the roof and leather and DSG and go for cool plaid seats and 6sp.,then you truly have the best bang for your buck at 21.5-22k.It's a great deal!

- No trim specified for this review
- Great fuel economy, very fast feels like a V-8
I traded in an H-2 Hummer because of the horrible fuel consumption of the Hummer. I now get 24 mpg city and over 30 highway compared to the Hummer which got 11 mpg city and 15 highway. Plus I saved money on my payment and insurance which over the next year saves me over $2000.00. Great little car the GTI....read morehide

- Mk4 Gti=Best looking hatchback ever. Good performance, very nice interior
- Monsoon stereo deck is outdated and oversized, a bit of road noise, quirks in build quality
Item reviewed is a 2004 Mk4 GTI 1.8T with Automatic/Tiptronic.
The good: Performance is good, especially for someone transitioning from a slower VW model, such as a 2.0L Golf. Handling is forgiving and driver-friendly, although some might need to get used to the ESP. The interior is very nice and the seats are quite comfortible. Also worth mention is that the cup holders are nice and simple fixed ones in the center console, rather than retractable ones above the stereo, which is fancier, but a total spill hazard.
The bad: The monsoon sound system is a dated stereo with a double-sized deck. The only real improvement over the more basic VW stereos is a CD player in addition to a tape deck. Replacing it will require filling the extra DIN slot. In my area, I have very little use for heated seats, but thats not a real gripe. Also note that the VW GTI is a pretty heavy compact car(around 3000lbs). I'm not bothered by this either as I dont feel any handicap from it.
The ugly: 2 out of three of my window washer sprays didnt work out of the dealership. I found that one was simply not connected(spilling washer fluid inside the hood) and I suspect the other one isnt either, but I cant easily fix it because its in the rear. Will fix ASAP. Thanks VW!...read morehide

- i absolutely love the engine power and fuel eperformance for such a small vehicle
- the engine is very powerful especially for ladies, but its controllable and gives satisfaction
have more daring colours and are you (VW) still going to continue with the Golf, GTi, V3, GTx legacy because these cars are selling pretty well actually they are selling excellently in south africa, they seem to be the economies driving force and youngsters love and adore them. the appearance also plays a role and VW is the cherry on top!!! this car is slique and seductive it's the peak point of no return with guaranteed satisfation. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT...read morehide

- Very strong pickup, Great handling, FUN FUN FUN
- Rattles in doors when bass is up, sit high up in seat
Great car, very fun to drive and has some great pickup even in automatic tranny. You sit kind of high up in the seats and the bass (not too much even with the monsoon sound system) from the speakers will rattle the doors some. Other than that a great little car with lots of aftermarket potential!

- Awesome car. Great fuel economy for a small sporty car. Smooth ride with a fast hasty quickness.
- Loud on the inside from the outside noises.
Overall the car is wonderful. I love the features it has. I love that it has a turbo already installed so that I get that extra speed if I need it right under my trunk. I love that it comes standard with 180 hp and comes stocked with a nice system equipped. I prefer the leather package because of clean up and the fact that it feels better on my body but we will see which one I buy this year. I use the car for racing and will be testing the 06 to it's limit's this next coming year. Thank you for all that you guys do for this gti. Mike....read morehide
