- Great DSG trani, turbo power, and confortable GTI "plaid" pattern seats
- Premium gas just because is a turbo! Give me a break. Hate or love style
The good things: DSG trani, smooth, fast paddle shifting or manual mode. Either way it feels great. Awsome power from the little 4cylinder, no turbo lag. In short words, this car is FAST! Great looking tired/rim set. Great sound from stock exhaust, put the windows down and you'll think you paid for a non-stock exhaust system. Plaid pattern sports bucket seats are great and the only way to go...its screams original GTI. Finally a trully sport look/feel steering wheel. Great looking grill with the "original" red markings. I have a white one, took it to get a custom paint job right away. Painted the center of the hood and roof black with red stripes running on both sides. It just adds to the overal appeal of the grill. Got the idea from another GTI which the dealer was trying to charge a premium of 3K for the custom paint. I only paid $450 for the same job.
The not so good things: A little expensive but I guess that's what we have to paid if we want our GTIs build in Germany instead of Mexico. "Happy face" looking grill is either hate it or love it. In my opinion headlights can be redesign to make it look a little more aggresive. But then again is a VW and they only make "happy" cars....read morehide

- I LOVE THE FIT AND FINISH OF MY GTI
- I DON'T THINK THE HEATING AND AC BLOWS HARD ENOUGH
I WOULD RECOMEND THIS CAR TO ANYONE, I HAVE OWNED A LEXUS, JEEP, AND A TOYOTA IN THE PAST YEAR AND I HAVE COME BACK TO STAY IN A VW, MY FIRST VW WAS A 2003 JETTA GLI, SECOND A 2006 TOUAREG AND MY THIRD IS NOW A 2008 GTI AND I KNOW NO MATTER WHAT I WILL ALWAYS HAVE AT LEAST ONE VW IN MY DRIVE WAY

- DSG is awesome, good fuel mileage, Handles like a dream
- Slightly too much road noise, needs more storage for coins, cell phone etc.
I just took delivery of a 2008 four door GTI with DSG and the Autobahn package (leather, sunroof, 250watt stereo). This car makes me smile every time I see it and drive it. VW makes some of the best handling cars, this is my 3rd VW in 14 years. The DSG semi-automatic transmission will probably be standard technology on all future cars. It shifts incredibly smooth and fast - I'll never go back to manual shift. Gas mileage has been pretty good (avg 27mpg with mixed driving). Back seats are very comfortable, sunroof controls are easy to use. It came with the Monster mat and Gorilla trunk organizer - pretty neat. Car needs more storage in the drivers area for things like coins, cell phone etc. Storage is small and hard to access, it's under the arm rest and you have to reach back a bit (VW has always been minimal in this area). Honeycomb grill really spices up its looks. Oh yeah, step on the gas and it goes! Lots of really cool features I didn't realize until I got it home. Most features are programmable through on dash menu system (right down to brightness of interior lights)....read morehide

- GOOD STYLING. AND FUIL ECON.
- IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP MORE THAN ON THE ROAD, BODY FIT IS SUB PAR. RATTLES. ON GOING ELEC. PROBS.
THIS IS MY 3RD AND LAST VW. IN MY EXPERIENCE AUDI/VW HAS GONE IN THE TANK SO BAD I HAVE LOST ALL FAITH IN THEM, AND BEING IN THE AUTOMOTIVE FIELD I SEE LOTS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME FEELINGS.GOOD LOOKS, SPORTY FEEL, NO RELIABILITY.

- The future in transmission technology. Can beat most cars way above it's class in a quarter-mile.
- A tad too understyled.
The DSG is one of the most innovative things I have seen since the Rotary engine in the RX-8. But ulike the rotary, the DSG has almost no weaknesses. Every by-product from this provides an abundence of advantages for the driver. You get the best of every world with this technology, like great mileage, as an example. I already dragged a BWM 326i and a Mazda 3-Speed and both ended up about 4 lengths back after a quarter-mile thanks to the DSG and Launch Control combo features. I have seen other tests on YouTube where other have found other results.
This is a wolf in sheeps clothing. It looks gentle, but is cabable of speeds of over 240km/h while maintaining good control. This is one of the BEST cars VW has ever produced.
On top of this is what you get for the money. The dash information centre contains more info than any BMW I have ever seen, including the 525i. The MX-5 dash is lame in comparison. Throw in climatronics, iPod adapters, and alumnum pedals, and you realize the attention to details the VW engineers in Wolfsburg came up with. Truly an amazing vehicle....read morehide
