- Best Mix of daily car, performance and handling
- Price tag, seat adjustment
After test driving everything from BMW 335, 135, Mercedes c300, c350, Acura TSX, TL, Honda Civic and Accord EXL, Ford and GM, Nissan Z etc. I must say that GTI is the best mix of fun, performance, pleasure with crazy good DSG gear box, while keeping the small car efficiency. It is the closest thing to the BMW 335 performance without the sticker price. I bought the AuthoBan package, so the price got up to the higher 20K, and would prefer if it was a bit cheaper and in line with the competitors. I find seat hard to adjust at times (check out BMW and Mercedes for the best seats in sports cars) although one gets used to it. Probably the best surprise is the DSG and how smart it is. Car has very good handling, sports car setup, and is very agile even at high speeds. If you are going to spend 22G on Honda Si, don't....read morehide

- performance, fun factor!
- squeeks, rattles
I wanted to trade in my BMW 740I for something with good mileage & something fun. My white 4 door GTI with 18's is just a terrific car. Although I lost a lot of money on the trade & the VW dealer in Bellevue WA. played some serious games with the numbers, I'm glad I did the deal! Campared to Cororra, I mean Corolla, Camary, Accord, this GTI is so much more fun to drive. The rattles aside, German cars have a better feel & interior. With the paddle shifting & that instant gear shift is just great!! I mean way more fun & responsive then a jap car or even a beemer. The other factor is that the GTI is something different on the road.. I want to stand out a little in todays world, right....read morehide

- great car for 23 g
- not much power
i love that car from the first time i saw it , as you look on every single part in that geramn car ,you can tell that everythink is perfect ,well vw is little shy with the power ,like other cars have 250 or 300 hp vw comes with 200 , i did the ecu and intake and came out of 260 hp and 310 th now i love that car ,only one probl;em was a air bag light came out because cable was to short ,but other than that there is no problems whit that car and i race o lot, i got 20,miles on it , some people say o my car have problems this and that , well if you dont take care of it and drive like crazy than what you expect , i love this cars i go with gtis since 96 and this is the best one ,and i stay with vw ,there is still r32 waithing and some people say r36 , people who realy know something about cars ,go to dealer and take a good look at new evo ,how its done and take a look at gti , the evo is not even close to gti , back bumper right on top of the plate , the poor exhust , front grill ,side grills ,front scop you can see hosees ,and the part that you dont look at but its important bottom of the car , vw got coverd with plastic ,so its done right and evo dont ,gti is for 23 and evo 33 ,like people say o you dont get to pick your color , this an that ,if you dont like dont buy ,german is perfect all the way...read morehide

- Red is the color to get! Leather seats needs a ventilation system ala Mercedes Benz.
- Sqeaks and radio! Starting hearing squeaks after 5,000 miles. Radio needs upgrading (wattage)
I bought a Rabbit and found out that it didn't have any performance or thrill to it (what do you expect for a $16,000 car) so I discovered My Fast when I test drove a GTI. Loved the car so much that I bought it on the spot! I did take a look at the R32 but it was $7,000 more! On days that I want to pretend I'm on a road in the mountains of Italy, I drive the GTI but when I'm concered about gas prices, it's the Rabbit. One thing, don't mess with any Evo's because you'll get your butt handed to you. German feel that no other small car will give you, plus for the price of a nice 3 series you can get a GTI and a Rabbit so both your fast and your tree hugger egos are satisfied! The rattles are ok but I often find myself with the windows down and the music up! Soon it will be time to trade the Rabbit and I think I'll get a Tiguan or Toureg! I will stick with VW! As for the ratings for comfort, remember it's a "Pocket Rocket" and compare it to other German cars that have the same performance and smile! One more thing; Love to hear that whine of the turbo!...read morehide

- A real road burner, very confortable with the leather upgrade, cool styling
- the reliability of this car has been the worst I have ever dealt with in a new car
When I first test drove this car I immediately fell in love. Unfortunaetly that love was short-lived. After 500 miles it had to go into the shop to replace a airbag sensor which consequently had to go back to the shop twice more for the same problem within the first 2000 miles. I also drove the car to Las Vegas and the car broke down right before I got to the state line - it was 119 degrees outside at the time. My car is currently at 26,000 miles (a little over a year of ownership) and the car has been in the dealership 12 times (only three times for routine maintenance). I am currently using a big-time lemon law attorney to recoup the money I have already thrown out leasing this 30,000 dollar paper weight. My advice to you is to go Japanese if you want to get a decent car becasue, once I get my money back that is exactly where I will be going to acquire a new car....read morehide

- Speed, Handling
- Rattles,poor reliability, expensive maintanance.
Soon after I bought the car I started to notice some annoying rattles dealer could not find the source of the rattles, the tps, alternator and front right caliper had to be replaced all within the first four months, now the a/c is acting up. What a rip off!!!!!

- Quick, full of features, great handling and no problems at thus far at 30K
- Gas tank wrong side ..no choices for interior colors..theres dark and dark
Alberto would not know power if he had it apparently. The car I have has excelent power I have on a few occasions out gunned BMW,Mazda Speed 3's etc. Excellent handling at the upper end and all the features I 've come to expect from VW.This is about the best model they have right now, but you have to drive it to experience and appreciate it's all around refinement. It's got the torgue, quick acceleration, and solid footing at high speeds. POWER ain't a problem Skippy...read morehide

- Everything. This car is awesome. The DSG is awesome.
I am a loyal VW customer. I did do some caparative shopping and did consider the Audi A3, Volvo C30, Mini Cooper Clubman and BMW. The VW GTI won out in all instances.
This is the best VW I have owned. The finishing is high quality with great attention given the detail. The seats are comfortable and the leather seats are the way to go.
Driving this car is a real thrill. The shifting is very smooth. Handling is tight and responsive. I smile every time I get behind the wheel....read morehide

- perfomance with decent gas mileage
- none yet
Ive had the GTI 2 weeks and I love it. Test drove Honda Civic EX, Mini Cooper S (loaded with everything), Volvo C30, 2005 BMW 330xi (used with 30k miles). Chose the GTI after I drove it. Had deposit on Volvo C30, but for $alot less I got leather and more room. Im six ft tall and can sit behind my driver seat with plenty of room. The trunk is alot bigger than the Cooper s but smaller than Civic. If you want fuel economy get the Civic, but if you can handle 30-32 mpg on hwy and get a car that was built for the autobahn, Get the GTI. I got the black metallic with 18in wheels and the Autobahn pkg.
Prices: paid invoice for GTI (get another grand off if loyal returning VW owner)..Volvo was willing to go $1000 under invoice (about $3000 off total)....Honda and Mini were not willing to lower their price at all..even though both dealers had huge inventories of cars....read morehide
